MONROE, La. – South Alabama dominated ULM from start to finish as the Jaguars earned their first win in Monroe in program history with a 55-7 victory.
The win pushed the Jags back to .500 on the year with a 3-3 record, and got them in the win column in Sun Belt Conference play with a 1-1 standing.
"Very proud of the response of our football team today," said head coach
Kane Wommack. "The first half of the season has been inconsistent. We've had our best moments, we've had some of our worst moments and our guys really stayed locked in through two really tough losses. I thought our guys did a tremendous job of just playing each snap like it was the most important play of the game, and those are the things that you can build off of."
Everything was clicking right away for South as the Jags scored on their first-five drives of the game, and every drive in the first half. Overall, USA scored on nine of 10 offensive drives for the game, including the final four of the night. Defensively, the Jaguars stopped ULM on 10 of 11 drives for the game by forcing two takeaways, two turnovers on downs, and five punts.
Quarterback
Carter Bradley led South Alabama's nearly-perfect efforts on offense with 303 passing yards and three touchdowns while completing 20-of-29 passes. True freshman
Gio Lopez then came in in relief of Bradley to throw for 84 yards and a touchdown of his own. It was Lopez's first-career touchdown at the college level.
The favorite receiving target on the night was
Caullin Lacy who recorded a career-high 156 receiving yards on seven catches. Lacy added a 44-yard touchdown on the night, and a long reception of 50 yards.
Kentrel Bullock,
Brandon Crum and
Jeremiah Webb joined Lacy as receivers to find the end zone. Bullock also found the end zone on the ground as part of his 38-yard rushing effort.
La'Damian Webb led the Jags in rushing with an even 100 yards on 19 carries, while scoring a touchdown for the fifth-consecutive game.
Marco Lee Jr. also got in on the fun with 49 yards and touchdown.
Trey Kiser finished the game as South Alabama's leading tackler with nine total tackles, including one for loss.
James Miller and
Khalil Jacobs each added six tackles apiece.
Jaden Voisin, who wore the number five jersey for the week, came away with an interception for the second-straight game.
Wesley Miller also pulled down an interception, which was the first of his career.
South dominated the Warhawks in every phase of the game, totaling 589 yards of offense while only surrendering 250. The Jags went 7-of-13 on third downs and 3-of-3 on fourth down, and held ULM to under 50 percent on third down and 0-of-2 on fourth down. USA also possessed the ball for 36:30 of the game while ULM could only manage 23:30 of possession.
