South Drops Rematch Against Troy, 3-1

MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama (18-6, 9-3) loses the second leg of the series against Troy (13-9, 11-1) in four sets Friday, Oct. 27.

The Jags broke off on a hot start with Hannah burying eight kills in the first set as well as the team totaling six blocks. Lillie Simons and Maddie Soboloeski both tallied three total blocks. South carried the momentum all the way through the set with a 25-16 win.

Set two saw early service aces from Soboleski and Maddux that gave the Jags an early lead. Two late Soboleski kills got South Alabama to 20 first, but a late Trojan push evened up the sets.

Troy picked up early in the opening points of the third frame despite a trio of Maddux kills keeping them honest. Momentum kept the Trojans rolling as Troy took the 25-20 set despite another three Maddux strikes and a Kailey Keeble ace.

South broke a 6-2 run with a Simons-Soboleski block and a Paige Lynn ace. Troy responded with a run of their own to take the lead until Abryanna Cannon sent home a kill and Niki Capizzi and Keeble teamed up for a block to even the score once again. The Trojans had the final say with a late surge on a 25-19 match-clinching set.

Maddux ended her night with 19 kills, three blocks and a service ace. The Jags were active at the net again, with Soboleski earning four total blocks and Capizzi and Simons finishing with five blocks each. Keeble recorded 37 assists, eight digs, and a service ace, while Lynn led the team with 16 digs and a service ace of her own.

NOTES
- Keeble's eight digs tonight helped her to surpass 1000 career digs.
- USA is now 2-4 when allowing opponents to hit above .200.
- The Jags have recorded double-digit blocks in 10 games this season.

QUOTES
Head Coach Jesse Ortiz
On the match today
"I thought they (Troy) served extremely well. Yesterday they missed some serves and there were some good, tough ones, but I thought they served way better today and it showed. Hats off to them, I mean they got us at Jag Gym, that doesn't happen too often. They were the better team tonight."
