MOBILE, Ala. - The Jaguars (15-3, 6-0) prepare for a divisional road test in Lafayette against Louisiana (12-8, 3-3) on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m., and Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
South Alabama enters the series on an eight game win streak, and three straight conference series wins sitting atop the Sun Belt West standings.
TEAM INFO
- Defense has been USA's strong suit, ranking top three in the conference in major defensive statistics. Ranking first in digs/set and 14th nationally, third in the SBC in blocks/set and 37th nationally.
- USA's stifling .142 opp hitting percentage is top of the conference and ranks fifth nationally. Combined with the team's .251 hitting percentage, it makes for one of the largest hitting percentage margins in the nation.
- Maddie Soboleski and Hannah Maddux make up a powerhouse offensive duo, with Maddux currently fifth in the conference (3.71) in kills/set, and Soboleski sitting at sixth (3.69).
-Maddux is one of the most skilled servers in the entire nation. Her .60 aces/set is currently eighth in the nation and leads the conference by a significant .12 margin.
-Kailey Keeble continues to be one of the country's premier Setters, leading the team assists/set to the top of the Sun Belt and ranking 12th in the country in individual assists/set.
- Niki Capizzi is third in the SBC in blocks/set with 1.14. She has 74 total on the season and is just the eighth player in South Alabama history to reach 300 career blocks.
- Capizzi ranks among the most efficient hitters in the conference, ranking fourth with .343.
- Paige Lynn has been a defensive constant for South, landing third in the conference in both digs/set (4.57) and total digs (297).
OPPONENT INFO
The Ragin' Cajuns played through a 9-5 non-conference schedule, then dropped a series hosting Troy before sweeping Arkansas State and splitting another in San Marcos against Texas State. Louisiana's Kara Barnes and Cami Hicks rank fifth and seventh in hitting percentage during conference play, and Setter Siena DeCambra is fifth in the conference in assists/set. Statistically, Louisiana doesn't stand out in any major categories, placing in the middle of the pack in hitting percentage, assists/set, kills/set, blocks/set, and digs/set. Junior OH Shyia Richardson leads the team offensively with 3.5 kills/set. Junior L Mia Yamamoto is another standout player, leading the team defensively with 3.5 digs/set and leads the team with 19 service aces.
Louisiana holds the all-time series lead at 36-21. South enters the weekend with a three game win streak against the Ragin' Cajuns dating back to 2021. The last time Louisiana beat South Alabama at home was in a 3-1 win in 2018.
