MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama continues their five-match home stretch to open the season by hosting Auburn-Montgomery on Friday and Xavier (La.) on Sunday. Both matches will be at 1 p.m.
South opened the season with a 5-2 win over West Alabama on Monday, while both AUM and Xavier have not started their seasons yet. AUM is ranked 13
th in the ITA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll and Xavier is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches preseason poll.
South's win against West Alabama saw wins on five singles courts, after dropping the doubles point.
Otoha Aoki,
Delien Kleinhans,
Caraline Scheufler,
Luminita Tutunaru and
Chems Doha Zeghlouli earned singles wins, while Nikola Novotna dropped her match. Zeghlouli's win was her first as a Jaguar.
The doubles duos of Scheufler/Aoki and Tutunaru/Notvotna dropped their doubles matches and Kleinhans and Zeghlouli's match went unfinished.
AUM went 17-8 last season while Xavier posted a 14-15 record.
South is 5-1 all-time against AUM, with the only loss coming in 1992. The Jags and Warhawks are meeting for the first time since 1996. The Jags are undefeated against Xavier, winning all eight matchups.
All home tennis matches will be at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts and admission is free.
