MOBILE, Ala. | After a week off, South Alabama returns to action this week at one of the most historic courses in the country – Inverness – playing in the Inverness Intercollegiate beginning Monday morning.
The tournament will have a feature hole on
YouTube all day Monday and can been seen on
ESPN+ Tuesday beginning at noon (ET). It is hosted by Toledo at the famed course. The club has hosted four U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, two NCAA Men's Championships, and the Solheim Cup since it opened in 1903. Inverness is the only club to have hosted the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Senior Open, and U.S. Junior Amateur Championships.
The field consists of No. 11 Georgia Tech, No 8 Washington, Notre Dame, Virginia, Louisville, ETSU, Iowa, Purdue, Ohio State, SMU, Charlotte, USC, No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 8 Texas Tech, and Toledo.
The last time the Jags took the course was at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate two weeks ago at Squire Creek, finishing tied for ninth overall in a talented field.
The Jags opened the tournament with a 7-under par round (281) before falling off just a bit in round two with a 4-over (292) before finishing out the tournament with a final round 1-under (287) to finish at 4-under par (860). They finished tied with SMU in ninth and just two shots back of Troy in eighth place and three behind UTSA. Southern Miss held off Middle Tennessee for the overall win with a final round 6-under (282) to finish at 28-under par, one shot ahead of the Blue Raiders who shot a final round 12-under (276).
Hugo Thyr led South Alabama finishing tied for 16th overall with a 5-under (211) that included an opening round 6-under (66), and he was followed by
Kevin Dahlberg with a top 20 finish at 4-under (212).
Jordan Plunkett finished tied for 44th overall with an even par (216), while
Jacob LeCroy finished tied for 52nd overall at 1-over (217) after an opening round 69.
Jack Hearn finished tied for 66th at 3-over (219) and
Eli Mitchell finished at 12-over (228) after a final round 72.
