2022 Schedule

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will compete in four non-conference tournaments, including hosting the Jaguar Invitational, and play eight Sun Belt Conference matches at Jaguar Gym as part of the 2022 schedule released Friday by head coach Jesse Ortiz.

USA will open the season in a four-team tournament hosted by USF in Tampa, Fla., to open the season Aug. 26-27. The Jags will face William & Mary (Aug. 26) to kick off the season, followed by a matchup against Ball State (Aug. 26) later that afternoon before taking on USF (Aug. 27) to close the tournament.

South Alabama will then travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, Sept. 2-3 for a tournament hosted by Stephen F. Austin. The Jaguars face Tulsa (Sept. 2) and SFA (Sept. 2), and wrap-up the tournament against McNeese (Sept. 3).

USA will open a tournament at Mississippi State against Houston (Sept. 10), and also take on Kennesaw State (Sept. 10) on day one in Starkville, Miss. The Jags will close the tournament against host MSU (Sept. 11).

South will then open its home schedule on Sept. 15 against Ole Miss at Jag Gym to kick off the Jaguar Invitational, followed by a contest with Eastern Kentucky (Sept. 16). The Jags close the tournament against Florida A&M (Sept. 17), which also competed in the 2021 NCAA postseason in the Gainesville, Fla., regional along with South Alabama.

USA will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Miss in a pair of matches Sept. 23-24 to close its non-conference schedule.

The Jaguars host ULM (Sept. 30 – Oct. 1) to open Sun Belt Conference play, followed by their first road conference series at Arkansas State (Oct. 6-7).

USA then opens a four-game home stand with a pair of matches against Louisiana (Oct. 13-14) and Texas State (Oct. 21-22). The Jags travel to Troy, Ala., for two contests against Troy (Oct. 28-29) before hosting Coastal Carolina (Nov. 4-5) to close their home conference slate.

South Alabama will close the regular season with two conference matches against James Madison (Nov. 11-12) in Harrisonburg, Va., before heading to Foley, Ala., to open the SBC Championship (Nov. 16-20).

USA won the 2021 Sun Belt Conference regular-season title, along with the 2021 SBC Tournament – which marked the first time in school history the Jags won the SBC regular season championship and tournament – to earn the program's first-ever NCAA postseason berth.
