THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Nick Brochu
- On today's performance:
"We definitely made it harder on ourselves. I'm not saying we played badly in doubles, we just made the wrong decisions. We didn't hit the right targets at the right times and it backfired on us. If you want to beat a team like UAB, when you have them against the wall, you have to close the door and finish it. Otherwise, they are going to come back and be louder. They did a great job of winning the doubles point. We were in position to win the doubles point and then we made two unforced errors we should have never made and gave them the match point. We have to work on doubles and being a little smarter where we hit. In doubles, it is all about strategy and not about power. At the same time, I like that we had a match like this. We needed this. When you cruise through opponents, you don't learn as much as today. Today, we really had to dig deep and kudos to our team captains. When you want the team to dig deep, you have to look to your captains to show the way. Seb [Collard] lost the first set and it wasn't looking good and he found a way to clinch the match. Louis [Delcour] had a very tough match and was able to get us that big point at the end. So, overall, I'm happy with the way we reacted to adversity. UAB was a tough match but we have to start doing a better job of starting stronger."
