Opening Tip
-The last game with the Mountaineers marked the second time last season that the two teams split a weekend series.
-It was the third of the four contests between the programs in the 2020-21 season to be decided by five points or less, with the Jags winning two of those match-ups.
- The last time South won in Boone was on Jan. 15, 2021 by a three-point margin at 66-63.
- As the last regular season game App State is projected to be seeded among the top five teams for the Sun Belt Conference tournament while South would benefit from the win by landing in the top 10.
Last time with Appalachian State
-It was just the second occasion that season that South has fallen when allowing 59 or fewer points, with the Jaguars now posting a 7-2 mark in such contests.
-After limiting the Mountaineers to just 3-of-18 shooting from beyond the three-point arc, it was the fifth time this year that the opposition has failed to shoot 20 percent or better from long distance.
-Savannah Jones recorded her third double-double in the last five outings, while it was the fourth occasion during that span that she has paced the Jags in scoring.
-With the effort, she passed Phyllis Kelly (1993-96) to move into seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list as she now has 1,463 points in the last four-plus seasons.
-It was Antoinette Lewis' 50th career game with a double-figure rebounding total.
-She ended the weekend fourth on South's career records list with 1,512 points, while with 218 blocked shots Lewis also climbed into the top five all-time in the category in the history of the Sun Belt Conference.
-Jaylen Mallard extended her streak to four outings in a row with 10-plus points after scoring in double figures on three occasions all year entering the final month of the regular season.
-Mahogany Vaught has been credited with four or more assists in five of the last six games after accounting for four of the Jaguars' nine on the day.
Notes from Coastal Carolina
- Coastal's win snapped the Jags win streak in the overall series.
- South Alabama dressed out just nine players for the contest.
- This is the first game since Jan. 29 at Georgia Southern that South has broken 60 points.
- It also marked the sixth game this season that three Jags had three players in double figures.
- For the eighth straight occasion South shot less than 40 percent from the field.
- In addition to leading the Jags in scoring, Vaught recorded five plus assists for the 15th time in her career.
- Tyrielle Williams' scoring total was the highest of her career, with her previous best set at ULM on Jan. 13.
