MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama kicks off the 2022-23 regular season on Monday, hosting Spring Hill at the Mitchell Center.
The Jags are 33-3 all-time against Spring Hill and 6-0 under head coach
Terry Fowler.
The Jags faced Spring Hill in an exhibition game last fall and won 85-49.
Zena Elias led the Jag offense with 17 points.
South has a 5-4 mark in season openers since
Terry Fowler became head coach prior to the 2013-14 campaign.
South returns nine players from last year's roster while adding four freshmen and six transfers. The Jags lost five letter winners from last year's roster.
Sophomore guard
Nadia Howard is the leading returner for multiple categories, including points per game (8.3), total blocks (20) and total steals (37). Senior forward
Kiana Anderson is the leading returner for rebounds per game with 3.9 and sophomore guard
Tyrielle Williams is the leading returner for total assists with 48.
Additions to the team include freshmen
Kelsey Thompson,
Naomi Smitherman,
Michiyah Simmons and
Rachel Leggett, as well as transfers
Tristen Washington (Pearl River CC) and
Maggie Robinson (Old Dominion).
