JAG WOMEN’S TENNIS OPENS SEASON AGAINST NEW ORLEANS

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team will host the University of New Orleans at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts on Sunday for its first match of the 2022 season.

- Caraline Scheufler (Jr., Gulf Breeze, Fla.)
- Yurie Takanishi (Sr., Haracho, Japan)
- Lara van der Merewe (So., Potchefstroom, South Africa)
- Luminita Tutunaru (Jr., Targu-Jiu, Romania)

NOTES
- South Alabama competed in four tournaments in the fall.
- The Jags finished the 2021 season in the Sun Belt Conference Championship finals, however, fell to Georgia Southern 3-4. 
- Last season Aoki — SBC Freshman of the Year — was 17-2 in dual matches, recording the most wins of any Jag. 
- Kohoutova led South in doubles wins last season with 16.
- South last played New Orleans in 2018, its fourth straight win over the Privateers.

LAST TIME WITH UNO
-After dropping the doubles point, the Jags bounced back with four straight singles victories to defeat New Orleans 4-3.
-Fujioka continued her undefeated streak in singles at 4-0, and Alexandria Stiteler picked up her second straight win at the No. 1 position.
-The win gave the Jaguars a 5-0 record for the spring, which was the best start since 2015 when USA won the Sun Belt Conference Championship.

THEY SAID IT

- On opening the season: "Excited to get this year's campaign started. A lot stronger opening match tomorrow than in the past against a good New Orleans team. It should provide us with a great starting point with regards to match play as we build towards April and May."
