JAGUARS ATHLETICS ADDS TWO TO DEPARTMENT STAFF

1/11/2022 10:04:00 AM

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama Director of Athletics Joel Erdmann announced Tuesday the addition of two members to the staff with the hiring of Chelsea Brown and Santuan McGee.

The former has been named athletic compliance coordinator while the latter — a three-year football letterwinner for the Jaguars — has accepted the position of director of athletic development.

Brown arrives from North Carolina Central, where she served as graduate assistant/compliance coordinator since October 2020.  In that role, she was responsible for managing all aspects of Eagle student-athletes' return to campus in the fall including scheduling compliance rules education, administering NCAA and institutional forms, and distributing educational materials to all teams.  She also assisted in the monitoring of all NCAA and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rules and regulations, the development and distribution of the National Letter of Intent process, official and unofficial visits for prospective student-athletes, and monitoring initial eligibility of all NCCU student-athletes last fall.

A 2018 North Carolina Central graduate with a degree in recreation administration, Brown added her master's degree in kinesiology and athletic administration in December 2021.  After earning her undergraduate degree, she began in the department as an internal operations coordinator within the athletic department's external relations and resource allocation unit.

In his three years as a running back, McGee helped the Jaguars to a 23-4 overall record including a 19-game win streak to begin the program's existence.  During that span, he rushed for 651 yards and seven touchdowns on 111 carries, an average of nearly six yards per attempt, while adding 156 yards on kickoff returns and five catches for 33 yards.  It was the third-highest rushing total and fourth-most rushing touchdowns recorded after South's first three seasons of competition.

During the 2011-12 academic year McGee was the recipient of the department's Shirley Holt Scholarship Award, which is presented annually to an individual who has exemplified "Team Spirit" and shown great character and concern for his or her fellow student-athletes.

After receiving his degree in 2012 from South Alabama in business administration, McGee began work as a police officer on campus before taking on the same role with the City of Mobile in 2014 which included both duties on patrol as well as with the precinct's crime detail unit.  In 2017, he began work as an insurance agent for the New York Life Insurance Company where he was responsible for soliciting sales, meeting with clients to evaluate, prepare and implement financial plans, and coordinating community events for new clients.  McGee returned to the Mobile Police force in 2018 as a special investigator, taking on assigned tasks from the chief's office.

McGee and his wife Ashley — a graduate of South's nursing program — have three daughters, Aubrey, Amari and Alexa.
