NORMAN, Okla. – Three members of the University of South Alabama men's golf program — Jordan Plunkett, Kyle Robinson and Yannick Schütz — were chosen Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America it was announced on Friday.
This marks the second occasion in the last three years that the Jaguars have had three individuals honored, as well as the 13th year in a row that at least one member of the team has been honored. In order to be recognized as an All-America Scholar, individuals must be juniors or seniors academically and are required to play in a minimum of 40 percent of their team's competitive rounds while recording a season stroke average under 76.0. In addition, they need to maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher, and be of high moral character as well as in good standing at their college or university.
Plunkett concluded his junior season with a 74.21 stroke average and two top 20 results while posting eight scores at or below par while competing at eight different tournaments. The economics and finance major from Sterrett, Ala., had a season-best finish after tying for 11th place at the first tournament of the year, shooting a 1-under-par 215 total over 54 holes to help the Jags place second at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. He also helped South to a second-place performance at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate, where he shot a 1-under-par 71 on the first and last days of play while firing a season-low 4-under-par 68 in the final round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
A senior from Fayetteville, Ark., Robinson participated in seven events and 19 rounds in 2020-21, recording a 75.79 scoring average and five rounds equal to or under par. He tied for seventh place in the individual standings — the best result of his USA career — at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate after shooting par or better in all three rounds of the tournament on the way to a 2-under-par 214 total. Robinson also broke par on the opening day of both the Little Rock Invitational and Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, and at the end of the spring semester earned his degree in economics and finance from the university.
Schütz — who hails from Friolzheim, Germany — led the Jaguars with a 72.63 stroke average, 12 rounds at or below par and five top-20 performances in his final season with the program. The fifth-year senior paced South at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, tying for fifth place individually with a 3-under-par 213 three-round score, as well as at the team's following event after he tied for sixth with a 214 54-hole total at UAB's Graeme McDowell Invitational. In the spring, he carded a 7-under-par 209 figure to end up in a tie for third place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, adding a tie for fifth place individually at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate before receiving his degree from the school in marketing.
