NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama senior men's golfer Yannick Schütz earned second-team all-Sun Belt Conference honors it was announced by the league office on Thursday.
It's the third time in his career that the Friolzheim, Germany, resident has been recognized, as he was a first-team selection in 2018 while picking up third-team accolades the following spring.
Schütz posted a team-best 72.63 scoring average over 24 rounds this season, leading the Jaguars and ranking among the top 10 in the league in the category while also standing sixth in the Sun Belt in score against par. He also paced USA with five top-20 finishes and 12 rounds at or below par, highlighted by a team-high-tying four scores in the 60s. Schütz was South's top finisher at six of eight tournaments the team participated in on the year, placing among the top 10 on a career-best four occasions while recording a 54-hole figure below par five times.
The senior matched the low 18-hole score of his career with a 67 at both the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate and the Craft Farms Intercollegiate during the spring campaign, while he posted a 7-under-par 209 total to tie for third in the individual standings — both the best results of his collegiate career — at the former event on the way to being named the SBC Golfer of the Week. He opened the season with a 3-under-par 213 three-round total to tie for fifth place individually while leading the Jags to a second-place finish at the season-opening Jim Rivers Intercollegiate while his efforts also helped South to a runner-up result in the team standings at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate after he concluded play with a 1-under-par 215 54-hole score.
His stroke average this season ranks 12th on the school season record list while he concludes his collegiate career with a 72.97 scoring average, which stands fifth in USA's career record books.
Schütz becomes the eighth member of the program to receive all-Sun Belt recognition on three or more occasions, and the first to do so since Michael Garretson and Tyler Klava accomplished the feat in 2015.
