JAGS SOCCER KNOCKED OUT OF NCAA TOURNAMENT BY OKLAHOMA STATE

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Cowgirls knocked in five first-half goals as the University of South Alabama fell to Oklahoma State, 7-0, Friday night at MacPherson Stadium in Bryan Park.

South Alabama (14-9-1, 8-2-0) matched the farthest the program has ever achieved in the second-round departure.

Oklahoma State (13-3-1, 6-2-1) won the 10th of its last 11 matches and will move on to Cary, N.C., to face Texas A&M.

GAME FACTS
- For the first 10 minutes, the game was played end-to-end with the Jags and Cowgirls making attacks in waves countering each other. South worked the Cowgirl goal box but were unable to put a shot toward goal, with OSU forcing a pair of shots on net with Allison Luckhardt making a pair of saves, smothering Cowgirl Kim Rodriguez' effort and deflecting Gabriella Coleman's shot into the crossbar and out of play.
- In the 15th minute the Cowgirls struck. After an offensive rush fell into the Jaguar goal box, mishit and attempts to control the ball were had by both teams until Coleman got the ball on her left foot. With Luckhardt closing, Coleman slotted it past Luckhardt, 1-nil to the Big 12 team.
- In rapid succession, Oklahoma State added a second then a third within six minutes 58 seconds of the first goal. Megan Haines, who assisted the first goal, scored the second with Grace Yochum notching the third from a set piece after a Jaguar red card.
- OSU added a fourth and fifth goal before halftime to take a 5-0 lead into the halftime tents.
- The Cowgirls added a sixth and seventh in the 63rd and 64th minute.
- The score remained the same for the final 26 minutes with Oklahoma State advancing to the next round.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Richard Moodie

- On the match: "We weren't at our best or where we needed to be, and we played against an extremely good Oklahoma State team that deserved to win and go on. They're a great team, but should it have been a seven-nil game? No, never. The sending off and we struggled to deal with a lot of the adversity. We just weren't ready."

- On Coach Carmichael and Hancock: "Coach Carmichael and Hancock were class. They were both part of the start of South as a program. They came over after the game to give the players a voice of encouragement."

- On the season: "In terms of the season, look through the NCAA stats and in terms of goals and assists we were number one in the country. We were top 10 in a lot of other categories. We weren't sure we were even going to have a season, but we managed to pick up a trophy and a second-round appearance in the national tournament. I said it to the players in the end that although we're heartbroken, but when we step back and look at it in a couple days, it was a good year. We got a taste of it, but the goal was to get past the second round."
