BIG FIRST-HALF FROM OLE MISS DOWNS SOUTH SOCCER

OXFORD, Miss. – Two first-half goals from the Rebels with a late second-half score saw the University of South Alabama soccer team fall to Ole Miss, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

USA (13-8-1, 8-2-0) has lost two matches in a row for the first time since September 2018.

Ole Miss (10-5-3, 3-3-2 SEC) hit double-digit wins on the season with only Little Rock left on the schedule. The Rebels are in play for an at-large NCAA Tournament bid, as they are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches top-25 poll.

GAME FACTS
- After South earned a free kick, Leandra Flury notched the first Jaguar shot attempt, but the effort flew over the bar six minutes and six seconds into the opening frame. Rebel Channing Foster recorded a pair of shots in the first nine minutes, but those attempts were also misses.
- At 13:11, the home side went in front after Mo O'Connor broke the deadlock to make the score 1-0.
- Three minutes later, Ole Miss poured on more pressure. The rebels recorded three more shots and a pair of corner kicks in one minute and 46 seconds, but the Jaguar defense kept the game at a one-goal margin.
- The hosts added a second goal when Foster finished off a corner kick sent in from Ole Miss' Molly Martin at 26:33 putting the Rebels up 2-0.
- The home side created a few more chances while limiting South, but the score remained 2-0 going into the halftime break.
- For the first 10 minutes of the second half, the sides looked much more even as each team recorded one shot. Allison Luckhardt made her fourth save of the match while Laurence Saviana missed to the right on her attempt.
- Despite the second half featuring the sides being closer to evenly matched, the home side sealed the match in the 85th minute when Rebel Ramsey Davis completed an offensive attack, making the score 3-0
- The home side kept the Jags from cracking the scoreboard over the remaining four minutes.
- In the first half, the Rebels outshot the Jags 15-1 and earned seven corner kicks while not surrendering any. Still favoring Ole Miss in the second half, the Jags responded with seven shots to Ole Miss' nine and one corner kick to the surrendering two to the home side.

NOTES
- Ole Miss improves to 5-3 in the series with USA and has won the most recent contest held in both Oxford and Mobile. Between the pair of Rebel wins, South beat Ole Miss in Oxford during the 2019 season.
- The previous consecutive pair of losses came in Sun Belt Conference play during the 2018 season on Sept. 21 and 23 against Coastal Carolina in double overtime and Texas State.
- Green added a start, appearance and 90 minutes to her active team-leading career numbers which stand at 71, 79 and 6,162 respectively.
- Kailey Littleford was the only Jag to register multiple shots.
- Three of the eight Jaguar attempts came from defenders (Flury, Green, Tilly Wilkes) with two of three being shots-on-goal.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Richard Moodie

- On the match: "I thought we were hanging in there but little mistakes cost us a goal then we concede off a corner when we switched off. I thought we had a go at them in the second half and the better of them in terms of football with better possession. We had two or three sitters and we missed them."

- On the improvement in the second half: "We changed our shape and went three at the back. It was one of those to where we came out in a back three against Columbus State and looked shambolic, and we switched to a back three in the game [today] without any instruction and they just did it today without time to think about it. It was disappointing to not get a goal today, but we will go back to the drawing board and figure it out again."

- On the differences between the teams: "They were more aggressive, more clinical and more confident; that was the fifference between the teams today. They pressed and were direct; they knew what they were going to do and did it. We came out hung out, but then made a couple mistakes and allowed a couple goals. We just lacked the experience. They [Ole Miss] is 6-0 in the spring and look like a team playing well week in and week out. We're a team that is lacking a rhythm right now, but this is the first time we've taken two losses in a row this spring."
