MOBILE, Ala. – A group of 19 current and former University of South Alabama student-athletes earned either undergraduate or graduate degrees from the school at graduation ceremonies held at the Mitchell Center on Friday and Saturday.
Maddie Soboleski and Morgan Stalcup graduated after helping South's volleyball program go 25-7 on the way to its first-ever Sun Belt Conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, while Deanna Green was part of a soccer team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times in her five seasons with the Jags. Women's golf's Julie Hovland earned an individual berth to an NCAA Regional after being named the SBC Golfer of the Year in the spring, and the duo of Bennett Shell and Cameron Tissue helped the baseball squad win both the conference regular season and tournament titles en route to making the championship game of the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
More than half the group are current or former members of the Jaguar football team, including Jake Bentley, Sean Brown, Gi'Narious Johnson and Nick Mobley — who all earned honorable mention all-Sun Belt honors during their career — as well as Zeke Chapman, Davyn Flenord, Kent Foster, Destin Myers, Jamie Sheriff and CJ Thompson.
Also receiving their degrees this weekend from South were softball's Lyric Cabral, Maddie Harrell with the women's track and field team and Cami Moreno from the women's tennis program.
