Opening Tip
• The Jaguars conclude a season-long four-game road stretch with a pair of contests at Georgia Southern.
• It's the first time South will face an opponent in a rematch since the start of Sun Belt play after playing host to the Eagles opening weekend in Mobile.
• It will also be the first of four straight match-ups against the league's Georgia schools with Georgia State slated to visit the Mitchell Center the final weekend of the month.
• The Jags had a season-best three-game win streak snapped last time out in their second contest at Appalachian State.
• USA has won four of its last five contests against Sun Belt schools away from home including a pair of victories in the opening rounds of the league tournament in Arlington, Texas, last year.
Georgia Southern Series Notes
• The Eagles' victory in the second of two games at the Mitchell Center during the opening weekend of the month snapped the Jaguars' six-game series win streak.
• South has won the last four match-ups between the two programs in Statesboro, averaging 73.7 points in the last three contests during that stretch.
• In fact, the Jags have defeated the Eagles in five of six games in Sun Belt action at Hanner Fieldhouse since GS joined the league.
• The Eagles last claimed a game in the series at home with a 57-43 victory on Jan. 7, 2016.
• The winning team has recorded 70 or more points in six of the last seven contests in the series.
A Scoring Boon in Boone
Guard Devyn Lowe paced all players in the second game against the Mountaineers with 24 points, which included hitting 5-of-7 from three-point range and all five shots at the foul line. With the effort she surpassed her previous career best, recorded against both Tulane and in South's first meeting with Georgia Southern earlier this year, by two points with the highest scoring total posted by a Jaguar this winter. Lowe has now scored in double figures in five of the Jaguars' six Sun Belt contests this season.
A Happy Return
After missing nine games due to injury, Savannah Jones played for the first time since the Jaguars' season-opening victory over Mobile last weekend in Boone. In her first game back, she was 6-of-8 from the field — including sinking both attempts from beyond the three-point arc — to share game-high honors with 18 points as South claimed a three-point win on Friday night. The performance, the 30th of her career leading the Jags in scoring, moved her into the top 10 on the school's all-time scoring list as she passed Taneisha Russell (2000-03) and now has scored 1,340 points since the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
Battling On The Boards
Senior Antoinette Lewis has been credited with a double-figure rebounding total in three of USA's last four outings after posting 10 on each day in Boone, with the second occasion marking the 40th time in her career that she has led all players in the category. With the effort, the forward/center passed Arkansas State's Shay Scott (2007-11) to move into the top 15 on the Sun Belt's all-time rebounding list.
Additional Notes From The Appalachian State Games
• App State held South to its lowest point total of the year on Saturday.
• The Jags' three-point percentage in that contest, however, was their best of the season.
• USA also recorded its highest field-goal percentage of the campaign in Sun Belt action in the Friday match-up.
• Jaylen Mallard was the only other Jaguar in double figures in the first contest of the weekend, accomplishing the feat for the first time since a win over William Carey on Dec. 8 after finishing with a career-best 15 points.
• Jayla Morrow remains in the top 10 in the league in steals per game after recording one in both match-ups with the Mountaineers, extending her streak to eight straight contests with at least one theft.
Notes From The Last Georgia Southern Meeting
• The Eagles' point total was the highest allowed by South so far this year.
• The Jags were also limited to a season-low rebounding total in the contest.
• Lewis moved past Annie Witherington (1980-81) into eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list with her first outing in double figures since Dec. 13.
• It was the third time in as many outings that Mahogany Vaught paced the Jags in assists.
• Lowe connected on multiple threes for the third straight game for the first time in her career.
