Opening Tip
• The Jags go on the road for the first time in Sun Belt Conference action this season.
• These are the first of four consecutive contests away from the Mitchell Center for South.
• It's the latest the Jaguars will play their first conference road game of the season since visiting No. 25 Old Dominion on Jan. 31, 1990.
• This will mark the second time in the last three years that USA's first road game in league play will be in Boone after falling to the Mountaineers 71-63 on Jan. 3, 2019, in its Sun Belt debut that winter.
• With a 57-42 win at Little Rock on March 7 in their regular-season finale a year ago the Jags snapped a three-game losing streak on the road in the SBC.
Appalachian State Series Notes
• The two teams have split the regular-season series two of the last three years.
• App State has claimed each of the last three meetings between the programs in Boone.
• Before last season's match-ups — which were both decided by a double-digit margin — the previous four meetings were claimed by nine points or less.
• The Jags' 81 points in last year's win to open conference play were two shy of matching the most they've posted against the Mountaineers.
• USA has been held to 63 points or less in its four road losses in the series.
Lewis Claims League Honor
After averaging a double-double with 15 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 54 percent from the floor and recording four blocks and two assists to lead the Jaguars to a pair of victories over Coastal Carolina, Antoinette Lewis was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of Week on Monday for the sixth time in her career. In the first game between the two teams on Friday the senior posted 17 points and a season-best 15 rebounds for her first double-double since a visit to Auburn on Dec. 13 while she shared game-high honors on Saturday with 13 points and paced the Jags with both eight boards and three blocks; her assist in the final 30 seconds led to the game-winning basket, while she preserved the 55-52 victory by blocking the Chanticleers' three-point attempt at the buzzer.
Lowe A Leader For Jags In SBC Action
Devyn Lowe matched Lewis for game-high honors in the second contest against CCU, as she has now scored in double figures — and connected on two or more three-point field goals as well — in six straight contests. Lowe is tied for the team lead with a 14-point-per-game scoring average and has also increased her output from beyond the arc to three three-pointers per contest in Sun Belt play.
Junior Guard Getting It Done
In the Jaguars' win on Friday Mahogany Vaught reached the 20-point plateau for the first time in her career while surpassing her previous career-high scoring total set in her season debut against Tulane on Dec. 1 after leading all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting. While her streak of scoring in double figures came to an end at eight games after she was held to eight points the following day, the junior recorded 10 assists and 10 steals over the weekend. Not only has Vaught been credited with five or more assists in three of USA's four conference contests, she has more outings with five-plus steals this season — Friday was her second after finishing with six — than the entire team recorded a year ago.
Additional Notes From The Coastal Carolina Games
• The Chanticleers' turnover total on Saturday matched the most committed by a South opponent this winter — William Carey also had 23 in a Jag victory on Dec. 8 — while it was the fourth occasion in the last five outings that USA has forced 20 or more miscues.
• The Jaguars' 22 points at the break and 55 total in the second match-up were their fewest recorded this season.
• South's 11 turnovers on Friday were four fewer than its previous low in the category this season.
• It's the first time Lewis has scored 10-plus points in three consecutive games since the opening three outings of the year.
• Jayla Morrow's five rebounds in Saturday's contest were her second-highest total of the season while Jadona Davis has now finished with five or more rebounds in a contest on five occasions this year.
Notes From The Last Appalachian State Meeting
• The Jaguars' rebounding total was their lowest of the 2019-20 season.
• App State had twice as many points in the paint as the Jags, finishing with a 28-14 advantage in the category.
• With the performance, South posted 10-plus three-point field goals in both match-ups with the Mountaineers last year.
• It was the fourth time in a seven-game stretch that Jones connected on five or more three-point field goals.
• It also marked the 20th contest last year that Lewis paced the team in rebounding.
