JAG VOLLEYBALL TO HOST TROY TO OPEN SUN BELT PLAY

Match Notes

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball will host Troy in a pair of matches this week at Jag Gym to open Sun Belt Conference play.

USA (0-4) and Troy (3-0) will square off on Thu., Oct. 1, at 6 p.m., and will conclude the two-game series Fri., Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. Live stats for each match will be available through the multimedia section at USAJaguars.com, as well as through the volleyball schedule page at USAJaguars.com. Thursday's match will be broadcast live on ESPN+, and can be accessed through the WatchESPN app or through the Jaguar volleyball schedule page.

Capacity for each match will be capped at 180 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Face masks are also required for attendance. There will not be any concessions available.

South Alabama dropped a pair of matches to Stephen F. Austin last Saturday in Jag Gym to open its 2020 home schedule, falling in four sets in each match. Rachel Hickey ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in digs per set (5.50), while Hannah Johnson ranks fifth in hitting percentage (.351).

Hannah Maddux ranks fourth in the league in service aces per set (0.38), and eighth in kills per set (2.92). Maddux recorded a career-high 17 kills in the first of two matches against SFA. Maddie Soboleski ranks fifth in the conference in service aces per set (0.33), and eighth in assists per set (8.00).

South Alabama holds a 47-28 all-time lead over Troy in a series that began on Oct. 19, 1974. The Jaguars carry a four-match win streak in the series against the Trojans into Thursday's match. USA has swept Troy the past two seasons. Troy's last win over the Jags came in the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Jonesboro, Arkansas. South Alabama is 25-14 all-time against Troy in Mobile.

The Jaguars are 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference openers under head coach Alexis Meeks-Rydell after defeating Arkansas State in four sets last year in Mobile in Meeks-Rydell's first year at the helm.

Troy, who sits atop the Sun Belt Conference East Division standings entering the weekend, swept three conference matches from Georgia State last weekend in Troy, Alabama. The Trojans swept the first and final matches of the series in straight sets, and earned a four-set win in match two last weekend. Troy leads the conference in kills per set (15.60) and assists per set (14.80), and ranks second in the league in service aces per set (1.50) and digs per set (17.40).

Troy's Cheyenne Hayes leads the Sun Belt in kills per set (5.60), Amara Anderson leads in assists per set (13.70) and Julia Brooks is tied for the league lead in hitting percentage (.397). Alison Siersma ranks second in the conference in service aces per set (0.43), while Lacey Jeffcoat ranks second in digs per set (6.20).
