SOUTH’S EJLERSEN SET TO BEGIN PLAY MONDAY AT U.S. AMATEUR

BANDON, Ore. – When play begins at the 120th U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday, the University of South Alabama's Anders Emil Ejlersen will be among the field of 264 individuals competing at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

The freshman from Viborg, Denmark, is the first Jaguar to qualify for the event since Tyler Klava participated in 2013.

Ejlersen enrolled at South in January, and was able to compete in one event for the Jags — playing at the Seminole Intercollegiate — before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic brought a premature end to the 2019-20 season.

Prior to arriving in Mobile, he participated in 16 events in 2019, winning both the Danish Amateur Championship and the Danish Stroke Play Championship while recording seven top-10 finishes.  At the Danish Amateur, Ejlersen closed with a 66 to post a four-round 283 total and claim the tournament by three strokes while he fired a 63 in the first round and posted a 200 54-hole score to win by a five-shot margin at the Danish Stroke Play.  He also recorded a 211 three-round score to win a qualifying tournament for the European Challenge Tour's Made In Denmark Challenge, where he would go on to make the cut after posting three scores in the 60s while putting together a 274 total.

Ejlersen enters the competition fourth in Denmark in the most recent World Amateur Golf Rankings.

The entire field will play 18 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, with one round each on the Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails courses, after which the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers.  Six rounds of match play begin on Wednesday, with the championship concluding with a 36-hole final on Sunday; the champion and runner-up will be exempt into the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course, in San Diego, Calif.
