NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, England – Former University of South Alabama men's golfer Jonny Caldwell recorded his first top-10 finish of the season on the European Tour after tying for eighth place Sunday at the Betfred British Masters held at the Close House Golf Club.

Caldwell opened the event with a 4-under-par 67 on Thursday, following with a 69 the next day to make the cut.  He shot 67 once again on Saturday before closing out play with a 70 for an 11-under-par 273 total, making the native of Northern Ireland one of nine individuals in the field to break par in all four rounds.

It was his first top-20 result on the European Tour since tying for 14th place at the season-opening Alfred Dunhill Championship in Malelane, South Africa, the final weekend of November.

With the effort, Caldwell moved up 28 places in the standings for the Race To Dubai, with the tour's season-ending DP World Tour Championship scheduled to be held Dec. 10-13.
