JAGUAR GOLF DUO AGAIN DESIGNATED GCAA ALL-AMERICA SCHOLARS

NORMAN, Okla. – University of South Alabama men's golfers Rasmus Karlsson and Yannick Schütz were selected Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday, the second straight year the duo have been honored by the organization for their work on and off the course.

It's the first time since 2013-15 that the Jaguars have had multiple individuals honored by the GCAA in back-to-back years, while it marks the 12th straight season that at least one member of the program has been recognized.

In his final season at the collegiate level, Karlsson competed in all 20 rounds at the Jags' seven tournaments during the 2019-20 campaign, posting a scoring average of 73.90 while shooting at or under par six times.  The Fiskars, Finland, resident tied for 10th place individually at the season-opening Lone Star Invitational after opening with a 3-under-par 69 to help USA win the team title, while he tied for ninth in the individual standings with an even-par 216 54-hole total — his best of the year — at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational to close out the fall semester.  Karlsson received his degree in management from the school in May, graduating with a 3.70 cumulative grade-point average.

A native of Friolzheim, Germany, Schütz recorded a team-best 73.35 stroke average and four top-20 results while sharing the lead on the roster with eight rounds of par or better as he participated in all seven of South's events.  He began the Lone Star Invitational with a season-best 5-under-par 67, tying for fourth in the final individual standings with a 1-under-par 215 54-hole score, posting the same three-round total at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational to end the fall campaign with another top-10 finish.  Schütz — who was among the top 25 in the Sun Belt Conference in score versus par at the conclusion of the year — is carrying a 3.38 cumulative GPA while majoring in marketing.

The GCAA recognized a record total of 614 honorees — highlighted by 376 from the NCAA Division I level — with a second announcement expected to add to those totals in the next month.

To be honored, individuals must be juniors or seniors academically and have played at least three full years at the collegiate level.  They are required to play in a minimum of 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds while recording a season stroke average under 76.0, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher, and be of high moral character as well as in good standing at their college or university.
