THEY SAID IT
Head coach Nick Brochu
- On doubles play: "We are disappointed with the result today. Miami is a very good team and they are well coached. We thought we could do better in doubles. At the number one doubles we did a great job; it was a great match. At the two our guys were playing well but after we got up a break early in the match, we gave it back and I think that hurt us. From that point on it was tough and at the end Miami came up big and broke us to win the match. The number three doubles team for Miami is very strong and we were not quite there. In doubles, we knew Miami was going to be on fire, they came out very intense with a lot of energy and that seemed to get to us."
- On singles play: "We knew that the longer the longer the matches and the longer the rallies we were able to force it would be to our advantage. We had some good starts, Clément [Marzol] was up a set Martin [Bugaj] was up a set so at number one and five we were doing great. Then at number two and five we had very good battles in which we dropped two close first sets. We were almost winning, very close, so although the end result was 7-0, it was an extremely close match.
"We had some guys like Sébastien [Collard] play very well, he played some really high-level tennis. Clément [Marzol] played a great match; he came so close to beating one of the top players in the nation. He has been playing very solid for us this year. He is an excellent playing and is showing that he can battle with anyone in the country.
"I think we just need to learn to close the set that is what it takes to beat good teams and that was a bit of a problem for us today. However, we are disappointed because we were outmatched at two positions. This is something that we need to work on because if you want to compete with nationally ranked teams you can't afford to lose two matches within an hour. We need to learn to stay in the match a little longer because as soon as you start going down on the scoreboard it becomes even harder on the remaining players. At the same time, we are working hard and we are going to use this match, which was a very high-level match, to get stronger throughout the season and going into tomorrow's match against FAU."
