Opening Tip
• The Jaguars begin Sun Belt Conference play with a pair of games against Georgia Southern.
• It will be South's first contest in 11 days after wrapping up non-conference action at New Orleans Dec. 20.
• The Jags are looking to end a two-game league losing streak at the Mitchell Center, with their last win at home in SBC play coming on Feb. 20 over Arkansas State.
• This will mark the seventh time in the last eight seasons that USA is beginning Sun Belt competition at home.
• South is 13-8 all-time when starting SBC play in Mobile.
Addition Sun Belt Notes
• Since the Sun Belt began regular-season play in women's basketball in 1984-85, the Jaguars have a 224-291 mark in the league.
• The Jags have posted a .500 record or better in conference action each of the last three years, putting together a 29-25 mark during that stretch.
• That's the program's longest streak finishing at or above .500 in the SBC since accomplishing the feat six straight seasons from 2007-08 through 2012-13.
• The Jags have an 18-18 record in conference openers after defeating Appalachian State 81-66 on Jan. 2 last winter.
• South is 17-10 at home in Sun Belt action over the last three seasons.
Georgia Southern Series Notes
• The Jaguars' current five-game winning streak against the Eagles is the longest posted by either school in the all-time series.
• USA has claimed eight of 11 match-ups since Georgia Southern joined the Sun Belt prior to the start of the 2014-15 campaign.
• This will mark the Eagles' first visit to the Mitchell Center falling to South 73-60 on Feb. 14, 2019.
• GS's last victory in the series came in a 53-45 decision in Mobile on Jan. 28, 2017.
• The Jags are averaging 74.6 points per outing during their current series winning streak after scoring 47.8 points per contest over the previous four match-ups.
Lowe Leads On Both Ends
Devyn Lowe paced the Jaguars with 14 points at New Orleans while also sharing game-high honors after recording three steals on the other end of the floor. It was the first time in her career that the redshirt junior has scored 10 or more points in consecutive outings while it marked the first occasion that she has been credited with more than one theft since posting three in South's final non-conference contest at East Tennessee State on Dec. 20 a year ago.
More From Morrow
G Jayla Morrow chipped in with a season-best 12 points — adding three assists and three steals as well — against the Privateers, making it the first outing she has recorded a double-digit point total since finishing with 14 in a March 14, 2019, defeat of Troy at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The performance included matching a career high — first set in a win over Alabama State on Dec. 9, 2018 — with three three-point field goals, while it was the first time Morrow has posted multiple steals in consecutive outings since USA's first two games of the year.
Additional Notes From The New Orleans Game
• It was the second straight outing that the Jaguars were charged with a season-high turnover total.
• It marked the first time this year that the opposition has finished with a better field-goal percentage than the Jaguars, with UNO connecting at the highest rate allowed by South thus far in 2020-21.
• Mahogany Vaught posted her team-leading fifth outing with 10 or more points.
• Although she missed a double-double by just one point and one rebound, it marked the second straight contest — and fourth occasion in the last five outings — that Antoinette Lewis has paced South in rebounding.
• C Jadona Davis tied a career best with a pair of blocks for the second straight outing, making her the first person other than Lewis to lead the team in the category this year.
Notes From The Last Georgia Southern Meeting
• It was the first time last season the Jags won when the opposition shot better than 40 percent from the floor.
• It was the last of three occasions during the regular season that South would have two or more individuals score 20-plus points in the same game.
• Lewis posted her 30th career game with 10 or more rebounds.
• Jones matched her season high at the time in three-point field goals.
• She also became the 17th individual in program history to surpass 1,100 career points with the effort.
