Opening Tip
• South wraps up non-conference play with its final contest of the 2020 calendar year.
• It's the second year in a row that the Jaguars will play a regular-season contest in New Orleans, having beaten Tulane 62-53 at Fogelman Arena on Dec. 7 last winter.
• The Jags have a 5-3 record at Lakefront Arena over the last four seasons, highlighted by reaching the championship game of the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
• USA has gone 7-0 against Southland Conference opponents over the last five years including a 74-66 defeat of Nicholls on Dec. 5 this season.
• South's 20 wins over New Orleans are its most against a current member of the league.
New Orleans Series Notes
• Thirty-seven of the 49 games in the series occurred while UNO was a member of the Sun Belt Conference from the 1990-91 through '2009-10 seasons.
• Although the Privateers leads the all-time series, the Jaguars have claimed 13 of the last 14 match-ups between the two teams.
• That stretch included a streak of 11 straight victories for the Jags before the Privateers won the final meeting in Sun Belt play.
• South has won six of the last seven contests in the series played in New Orleans dating back to the 2003-04 campaign, including earning a 65-62 win on Nov. 19, 2016, in the last match-up at UNO.
• Neither team has reached the 70-point plateau in the series since the Privateers picked up a 78-51 victory at home on Feb. 18, 2001.
Double-Double Time
Senior Antoinette Lewis recorded her third double-double of the year and the 35th of her career after leading the Jags with 15 points and 10 rebounds last time out at Auburn, adding a team-best three blocks as well. It was the 70th occasion during her career that the forward/center has recorded 10 or more points, while it marked the 60th time she has paced South on the glass since the start of the 2017-18 campaign. With the effort, Lewis moved into a tie for third in school history and a tie for 13th place in the Sun Belt's record books with former Jaguar Genevieve Delk (2001-05) as she now has 183 rejections, and she also climbed one spot into ninth on USA's all-time scoring list after passing Taneisha Russell (2000-03).
Doing It On Both Ends Of The Floor
G Mahogany Vaught added 13 points against the Tigers and has now scored in double figures in each of her four appearances this season, and she also matched a career high first set in a Dec. 17, 2018, win over Faulkner after handing out six assists. But it was her performance on the defensive end of the floor that was noteworthy as she tied the third-highest steal total in a game in the school's record books after posting eight in the contest — it was the first time a Jaguar has been credited with eight or more since JoAnna Williams did so at Florida International on Feb. 16, 2006.
Lowe On Target From Long Range
Devyn Lowe also finished the AU contest with 13 points, highlighted by making a game-high four three-point field goals. It was the redshirt junior's first outing with 10-plus points since posting a career-best 22 against Tulane on Dec. 1, which was also her most recent outing with multiple three-point field goals prior to facing the Tigers.
Additional Notes From The Auburn Game
• The Jaguars scored more than 25 points in the paint for the fifth time in as many outings this year after finishing the day with 28.
• South has now shot better than the opposition in each of its five contests thus far this season as well.
• Jadona Davis' three contests with a double-digit point total — which have come in the team's last three outings — rank third on the team.
• Jayla Morrow has now made more than one three-pointer in two of the last three outings, a feat she accomplished once in her final 11 appearances of the 2019-20 season.
• It was also the third time this year that the senior guard has been credited with three steals, one shy of her career high recorded during postseason play in 2018.
Notes From The Last New Orleans Meeting
• The Jaguars broke open the contest with a 20-0 run over a six minute and 42 second stretch that began with just under a minute to go in the first half.
• UNO's turnover total was the highest by a Jaguar opponent during the 2017-18 season.
• South outscored the Privateers 36-12 in the paint.
• It was the first time that Lewis posted a double-figure point total as well as the first occasion that she led the Jaguars in scoring in her career.
• She and Jones accounted for all but six of USA's points off the bench, with the duo outscoring UNO's reserves by a 15-point margin.
