REID TO JOIN SOUTH ALABAMA MEN’S GOLF TEAM IN SPRING

12/10/2020 9:43:00 AM

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head men's golf coach Ben Hannan announced on Thursday that Connor Reid has signed a grant-in-aid and will enroll in school in the spring.

After playing the last two years at Samford, Reid will enter the program as a junior and is immediately eligible as the Bulldogs did not compete during the fall season.

"We are really excited and looking forward to Connor joining us in the new year," Hannan said.  "We recruited Connor out of high school, so we have known him for a while.  With the COVID-19 pandemic canceling last spring, we have been working to balance our roster and Connor transferring fits perfectly with our class structure.  Growing up in Alabama, Connor already knows some the guys on the team which will help make the transition easier.

"He has posted several under-par rounds collegiately and played great this summer with strong finishes in top fields throughout the Southeast.  Technically his game is very sound, we look for him to immediately compete for playing time as he will add depth to an already talented group of players."

As a sophomore, Reid recorded a 73.88 scoring average highlighted by a top-10 finish at the Gulf Coast Collegiate where he carded a 70 on the final day of play.  He posted four other top-30 results during the 2019-20 campaign with seven scores at or below par.  Reid participated in 29 rounds as a freshman for the Bulldogs, including firing a 69 in the opening round of the Southern Conference Championship.

A resident of Opelika, Ala., he helped lead Lee-Scott Academy to back-to-back state championships at the prep level while claiming medalist honors at the event when he was a senior.

Last summer Reid posted a pair of top-10 finishes in amateur competitions after tying for fourth place at the Magnolia Amateur — where he carded scores of 67, 68, and 72 — while placing in a tie for seventh at the Alabama State Amateur after shooting a 67 and 69 in the middle two rounds of the event.  He also tied for seventh with a 138 36-hole total at the North Alabama Fall Classic.

Reid and the Jaguars are slated to open the spring season at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, hosted by South Alabama at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course, in February.
