MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball will face Appalachian State in a three-match Sun Belt Conference series in Boone, North Carolina, this weekend.
The series will kick off with the opening match on Fri., Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. (CT) at Holmes Convocation Center, followed by match two Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. (CT). The series finale is set for Sat., Oct. 10, at noon (CT). Live stats for each match will be available and accessible through the multimedia section of USAJaguars.com. The final two matches of the series will be broadcast live through ESPN+, and available through the WatchESPN app.
South Alabama (1-5, 1-1 SBC) enters the weekend even in Sun Belt play after splitting a pair of matches with Troy last weekend at Jag Gym to open its conference schedule. Troy won the series opener in five sets before the Jags rallied from two sets down to defeat the Trojans 3-2 in the series finale last Friday to snap a five-match losing skid.
Freshman Rebecca Walk ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in hitting percentage (.395). Walk recorded career highs in kills (21), hitting percentage (.500) and total blocks (5) in last Friday's win over Troy. She was the first Jaguar to record 20 or more kills in a match since Hannah Harris posted 21 against UT-Arlington in 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Rachel Hickey ranks fourth in the league in digs per set (4.79). Maddie Soboleski ranks fourth in the SBC in service aces per set (0.39) and fifth in assists per set (8.00), while Hannah Johnson ranks tied for sixth in the conference in blocks per set (1.00).
Appalachian State (0-0, 0-0 SBC) will open its 2020 season this weekend against the Jaguars after its first five matches of the season – three with Georgia Southern and two against Coastal Carolina – were postponed. The Mountaineers return 16 letterwinners, including five starters, from last year's squad that finished 13-17 overall and 9-7 in the SBC.
