MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball will close its 2020 home schedule when it hosts Georgia Southern in a three-match series Oct. 22-23 at Jag Gym.
The series will open Thu., Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., followed by match two Thursday evening at 6 p.m. The series will conclude with the finale on Friday at 1 p.m. Four Jaguar seniors will be honored in a ceremony prior to first serve: Hannah Harris, Hannah Johnson, Meaghan Jones and Morgan Stalcup.
All three matches will be broadcast live through ESPN+, and can be accessed through WatchESPN.com, the WatchESPN app or via links at the Jaguar schedule page at USAJaguars.com. Live stats will also be available and accessible through the multimedia section at USAJaguars.com.
South Alabama (4-8, 4-4 SBC) enters the series with a three-match losing skid after dropping three matches to Coastal Carolina last weekend at Jag Gym. CCU snapped a season-best four-match Jaguar win streak with a win in the series opener last Thursday.
USA ranks tied for sixth with Little Rock in the Sun Belt Conference in service aces per set (1.41), and ranks seventh in opponent hitting percentage (.183). Rebecca Walk ranks second in the conference in hitting percentage (.345). Rachel Hickey ranks sixth in digs per set (4.59), while Maddie Soboleski ranks seventh in assists per set (7.79) and eighth in service aces per set (0.42).
Georgia Southern (1-1, 1-1 SBC) split a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches at Georgia State Oct. 1-2, which marks their only matches played so far this season. The Eagles have had two series postponed with Appalachian State, and one with Troy. Georgia Southern ranks tied for third in the league in service aces per set (1.50), led by Meredith Eckard who leads the Sun Belt in service aces per set (0.75). Chamblee Russell ranks tied for third in service aces per set (0.50).
The all-time series between South Alabama and Georgia Southern is tied 7-7 entering the series. USA carries a three-match series win streak in to the series opener after taking both matches last season – a win in straight sets in Statesboro, Georgia, on Oct. 5, followed by a five-set win in Mobile on Oct. 25. USA is 2-0 all-time against the Eagles under head coach Alexis Meeks-Rydell.
