Opening Tip
• The Jags are looking for their second 2-0 start in Sun Belt Conference action in the last three seasons.
• They are also aiming to claim back-to-back victories for the first time since the final week of November.
• All but the first meeting between the two programs have come since Coastal joined the Sun Belt prior to the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
• Last year's sweep of the Chanticleers by the Jaguars marked the first time either program has won consecutive contests in the series.
• South has won the last two match-ups in the series in Mobile.

Kines Kind Of Night
Shaforia Kines posted 24 points and a career-best 11 rebounds in the Jaguars' win over Appalachian State on Thursday, adding a season-high-tying five assists and two steals to pace all players in those categories as well.  Not only was it her first double-double of the season and the second of her career — she had 15 points and 10 rebounds against the Mountaineers in last year's Jan. 3 meeting in Boone — but the senior became the third member of the program to score the 1000th point of her career with her final field goal of the night.  It was Kines' first game in double figures since the Jaguars played at Southern Mississippi on Dec. 15, and her fourth outing with 20-plus points this year.

Two In A Row With 20
Redshirt junior Savannah Jones chipped in 20 points against the Mountaineers, including posting 16 in the second half, for her second straight outing scoring 20 or more; that's the first time she has accomplished the feat since doing so in wins over ULM and Troy on Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 last season.  It was also the first occasion that the Jags have had two individuals record 20-plus points in the same game since she and Antoinette Lewis turned the trick in a Nov. 14 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Busting It Open
With South ahead 13-12 with two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the opening quarter, F Jala Buster scored the final eight points of the period on a pair of three-pointers and a basket in the paint to break open the contest.  Making her first start since the Southern Miss game, the sophomore finished one point shy of equaling a career high after recording 12 — converting all five attempts from the field — for her fourth double-digit performance of the season and her first since the Jaguars defeated Mobile on Nov. 26.

Sophomore Solid In Sun Belt Opener
Sophomore G Damaya Telemaque finished with 11 points and five boards in the App State victory, the second straight outing she has been credited with a season-high total in the latter category.  After posting 10 combined points in trips to Tulane and Southern Miss last month, she has averaged 11 points in the Jags' last three contests.

Boost Off The Bench
Jayla Morrow entered play with six points in eight appearances this season, a figure she matched after sinking a pair of treys in the second quarter in the win over the Mountaineers last time out.  The junior guard also equaled season-high totals with three assists and a pair of steals, sharing the team lead in the latter category for the second time this year.

Additional Notes From The App State Game
• It was the first time since facing Auburn on Dec. 4 that South connected on 10 or more three-pointers in a game, while it marked the first occasion since an 83-60 victory over Louisiana on Jan. 24 a year ago that the Jaguars have shot 50 percent or better from beyond the arc.
• Not only did the Jags convert 10 three-pointers, they held a 34-20 edge in points in the paint.
• USA has now limited three of its last five opponents to less than 35 percent shooting from the field.
• South shot 53.6 percent — making 15-of-28 field-goal attempts — in the second half.
• The Jaguars also converted a season-high 91.7 percent at the foul line.
