OVER 50 SOUTH ALABAMA STUDENT-ATHLETES RECEIVE DEGREES SATURDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – A total of 52 current and former University of South Alabama student-athletes, nearly a third of whom received all-Sun Belt Conference recognition in competition, received their undergraduate degrees at the school's annual spring graduation ceremony Saturday at the Mitchell Center.

Included in that group were three-time men's track and field All-American Sean Collins, Academic All-American Rowan Godwin and Alexandria Stiteler, who twice qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship during her Jaguar career and was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year on two occasions.  Peter Staalbo was named first-team all-league after competing at an NCAA men's golf regional as a freshman, Alex Elam participated in the NCAA men's track and field East Region Preliminary Round, while the women's track and field trio of Taylor Dames, Michaela Preachuk and Olivia Swan all advanced to the regional and earned all-conference recognition as well.

Hannah Godfrey from the women's soccer program was first-team all-Sun Belt on two occasions and chosen the Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, and Devin Brown was selected second-team all-region while being named first-team all-Sun Belt three times in softball.  Other all-conference selections earning their degrees at the ceremony included Ryan Alexander, Bull Barge, Nigel Lawrence and Gavin Patterson from the football team, Rodrick Sikes (men's basketball), Autavia Fluker (women's track and field) and Patricia Martins (women's tennis).

Christen Carter and India Hall graduated after helping the women's basketball program advance to the championship game of the Sun Belt Tournament while earning a berth in the WNIT this season.

The Jag football team had a total of 16 individuals graduate, most in the department, with the group also including  Brian Ankerson — who, along with Godwin and Patterson, was an academic all-district selection in the fall —Sean Grayer, Konnor Houston, Jordan McCray, Khalil McDonald, Rocel McWilliams, Tobias Moss, Spencer Perry, Malik Stanley, D'Taveius Taylor and Troy Thingstad.

The women's track and field team also had a double-figure graduate total with Caitlyn Dressler, Jessie Droogsma, Kailee Kiminski, Mary Franklin King, Jazmyne Tabb and Taylor Young earning degrees in the spring.  Felix Aberouette, Nick DeSantis, Chase Lambert, Michael Marra and Colton Thomas from South's baseball program took part in the ceremony, as did softball's Megan Harris, Savanna Mayo, MC Nichols and Taylor Stevens.  Also graduating were Jordan Andrews and Abdul Dial from men's basketball, men's track and field student-athletes Sam Brown and Ben Rolader, and Parker Harrell with Jaguar volleyball.

Former student-athletes Dylan Stamey (baseball) and Jennifer Perkey (women's basketball) completed their studies in the spring semester and received degrees as well.
