Opening Tip
• Alabama is the first of two Southeastern Conference opponents the Jaguars will face in the next two weeks with Auburn also on the schedule on Dec. 4.
• It's the first time since the 2011-12 campaign — when South visited both Ole Miss and Mississippi State — that the Jags will take on multiple SEC members in the same season.
• USA is playing host to the Crimson Tide for the first time since recording a 56-48 victory on Dec. 30, 2005, in the Coca-Cola Classic.
• This is the first visit to the Mitchell Center by an SEC team since Florida defeated the Jaguars, 72-60, on Dec. 1, 2015.
• It's also the second of four non-conference match-ups with in-state opponents for South the opening month of the season, with Mobile and Auburn also on the schedule as part of the program's current six-game homestand.

Player-of-the-Week Performance
Antoinette Lewis finished with a double-double in both of the Jags' Preseason WNIT contests last week, and after averaging 25 points and 14 rebounds to go along with seven blocked shots, six steals and four assists she was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.  Last time out against Miami (Ohio), the junior center paced South in four of the five main statistical categories with 26 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and four steals — all but the board total were season-high figures — and after scoring 24 points the previous night in an overtime win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi it marked the first time that Lewis has recorded 20 or more points in consecutive contests since accomplishing the feat in wins over Louisiana and ULM on Jan. 24 and 26 last year.  It was also the fifth occasion in her career that she has received the league's weekly honor.

Lewis Among League, National Leaders
With a start to the season that has her pacing the team in scoring (17.8 ppg), rebounding (14.0 rpg), blocks (10) and steals (eight), Lewis finds herself among the leaders in both the country and conference entering the Alabama game. In addition to topping the Sun Belt in rebounds per contest and double-doubles — ranking third nationally in both categories — she is first in the league and 20th in the country in blocks per contest;  Lewis also is second in scoring and sixth in steals per outing in the SBC.

Boost From The Bench
Redshirt sophomore Casey Ferguson posted 11 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes against the Redhawks, with all three figures career-high totals.  Not only did it mark the first time in her Jaguar career that she has finished with a double-digit scoring total, but she fell one point shy of matching her total in 13 appearances over the last two-plus seasons.  Thanks to Ferguson's efforts, it was the first time this year that South's bench has outscored the opposition.

Getting On The Glass
In USA's first Preseason WNIT game last week against the Islanders, Savannah Jones matched a season-high with six rebounds in addition to sharing the team lead in scoring for the first time this year after collecting 24 points.  The guard followed that up with nine boards the next night in the match-up with Miami (Ohio) and is now the team's second-leading rebounder with a career-high average of six per outing coming into play.

Additional Notes From The Miami (Ohio) Game
• Lewis' performance marked the first time this year that a Jaguar has led all players in scoring.
• The Jaguars have had a different player pace the squad in steals in each of their first four contests after Lewis was the only individual to finish with more than one in the match-up with the Redhawks.
• It was the fourth time in as many outings that South has improved its field-goal percentage after finishing the game connecting at a season-high 43.6 percent clip.
• The Jaguars have now attempted 30 or more free throws in three of four contests this season after visiting the foul line 34 times against the Redhawks.
• USA's 43 first-half points were the most it has scored this season, as it was the first time in 2019-20 that the Jags have taken a lead to the locker room.
