Opening Tip
• The Jaguars will conclude play in the preseason WNIT by hosting one of two four-team consolation pods Thursday and Friday.
• The opening day schedule features:
- Miami (Ohio) vs. Prairie View A&M, 4:30 pm
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at USA, 7 pm
• The two winners and losers will meet on Friday, with the Jags scheduled to play in the second contest of the day at 7 p.m.
• South won its last match-up with a Southland Conference school after earning a 73-71 victory at Lamar on March 22 in the opening round of last year's WNIT.
• The Jaguars have won their last five meetings with current Southland schools dating back to a 66-62 loss at home to Nicholls on Dec. 6, 2014; that includes the most recent visit by a conference member to the Mitchell Center, as USA defeated Central Arkansas 64-43 on Dec. 16, 2017.
• The Colonels are also the last Southland team to win in the Mitchell Center, accomplishing the feat on Nov. 20, 2013, with a 68-60 decision.
A Look Ahead
Here is the series history with potential second-day opponent Prairie View A&M; the Jags have never faced Miami (Ohio) since the program's first season in 1974-75. Both the first meeting and a 1993 match-up with the Panthers in Mobile were part of tournaments hosted by South.

Conference Connections
The Jaguars are 68-18 (79.1%) all-time against schools from the Southwestern Athletic Conference after going 2-0 against league members — winning at Southern on Nov. 19 and at home against Alabama State Dec. 9 — last season. USA is 2-1 all-time in match-ups with foes from the Mid-American Conference, winning its last two outings after sweeping a home-and-home series from Ohio during the 2007-08 and '08-09 campaigns (the loss came to Northern Illinois on Nov. 23, 1990, at the Central Florida Thanksgiving Tournament).
Cool To Be Kines
G Shaforia Kines posted 14 points in the Jags' opening Preseason WNIT game at UAB to lead the team in scoring for the second time in as many outings this month, marking the first time the senior has accomplished the feat in back-to-back contests since the second and third rounds of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament last year. With four assists and four steals in South's first two games, Kines leads the squad in three of five statistical categories (Antoinette Lewis is the team's top rebounder and shot blocker thus far).
Buster Big In Birmingham
Jala Buster scored in double figures for the first time since South defeated Faulkner on Dec. 17 last year after recording a career-best 11 points against the Blazers. That wasn't the only personal best the sophomore guard/forward finished with at UAB, as she tied one career high with six rebounds and matched another handing out her first assist of the season while also knocking down the first three-point field goal of her career.
Additional Notes From The UAB Game
• Lewis has now paced the team in rebounding in four straight games, the first time she has done that since turning the trick in four straight contests from Feb. 7-16 last winter.
• It was the 46th time in her career that Savannah Jones has posted 10 or more points, most on the team.
• Devyn Lowe supplied eight points in just 14 minutes — accounting for all but two of South's bench points in the contest — which included sinking multiple three-pointers for the first time since going 2-of-4 from long distance against Little Rock in the Sun Belt Conference championship game last March.
• With only nine turnovers, the Jaguars have had fewer than 10 in consecutive games since finishing with seven at Arkansas State and nine at Little Rock on Feb. 7 and 9 last season.
• After being outscored in the paint by Rutgers in the season opener, South held a 28-18 edge in the category against UAB.
