MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will host a pair of Sun Belt Conference East Division matches this weekend at Jag Gym to close its home schedule.
USA (18-7, 9-2 Sun Belt) will host Coastal Carolina (18-4, 8-2 Sun Belt) Fri., Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Jag Gym, and will host Appalachian State (9-14, 5-5 Sun Belt) Sat., Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Four Jaguar seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony prior to first serve of the USA-App State match.
Both matches will be streamed live and available for free through JagNationTV.com, and live stats will be provided and available through the multimedia section of USAJaguars.com.
South Alabama enters the weekend in first place in the Sun Belt Conference East Division standings after defeating Troy in straight sets Tuesday at Jag Gym. USA carries a three-game win streak into Friday's match, as well as a 14-match home win streak.
The Jags rank second in the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.239), and rank fifth in kills per set (12.73) and service aces per set (1.44). In conference matches, USA ranks third in hitting percentage (.235) and digs per set (15.74), fourth in kills per set (13.31) and tied for fourth in service aces per set (1.36).
Kelley Hartman leads the league in hitting percentage (.392), and ranks eighth in kills per set (3.14). Rachael DeMarcus ranks fifth in the conference in assists, Ashlyn Roberts ranks sixth in digs per set (4.21) and Hannah Harris ranks eighth in service aces per set (0.35). In conference matches, Hartman ranks fourth in the league in hitting percentage (.368), and seventh in kills per set (3.28). Harris ranks tied for fourth in service aces per set (0.41) in conference contests, DeMarcus ranks sixth in assists per set (9.54) and Roberts ranks seventh in digs per set (4.18).
CCU dropped a pair of home matches in Conway, S.C., last weekend, falling to Texas State in four sets last Friday before a five-set loss to UT Arlington. The Chanticleers are 8-0 on the road this season. CCU leads the Sun Belt in hitting percentage (.278) and service aces per set (2.14), ranks second in assists per set (12.10) and blocks per set (2.12), and ranks third in kills per set (13.02). In league matches, CCU leads the conference in service aces per set (2.06), second in hitting percentage (.268) and third in blocks per set (2.22) and assists per set (12.47).
The Chanticleers' Anett Nemeth leads the Sun Belt in kills per set (4.59), and ranks third in hitting percentage (.347). Brigitta Petrenko leads the league in service aces per set (0.59), and ranks second in assists per set (10.65). In conference matches, Petrenko leads the league in service aces per set (0.69), and ranks second in assists per set (11.08), while Nemeth leads in kills per set (5.28) and ranks third in hitting percentage (.369).
Appalachian State enters the weekend with a five-game losing streak after falling to UT Arlington in straight sets last Friday in Boone, N.C., before falling to Texas State in five sets last Saturday. The Mountaineers are 3-6 in road matches this season.
App State ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in service aces per set (1.45). In league contests, the Mountaineers rank tied for fourth with the Jags in service aces per set (1.36). App's Emma Reilly leads the conference in digs per set (4.77), and ranks second in service aces per set (0.49). Emma Longley ranks third in kills per set (3.99), while Kara Spicer ranks fourth in hitting percentage (.328) and tied for ninth in kills per set (3.00). Longley ranks second in the league in kills per set (3.97) in Sun Belt matches.
CCU holds a 6-1 all-time lead over South Alabama in a series that began in 2000. The Chanticleers carry a six-match series win streak into Friday's match with the Jags. The USA-App State all-time series is even at 5-5, and dates back to 2014. The Mountaineers carry a two-match win streak in the series into Saturday's match after defeating the Jags twice last season.
