JAG VOLLEYBALL READIES FOR HYATT REGENCY INVITATIONAL

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will travel to Atlanta this week to compete in the Hyatt Regency Invitational Aug. 30-31 at O'Keefe Gymnasium.

South Alabama (1-2) will kick off the two-day tournament, hosted by Georgia Tech, with a 1 p.m. (CT) match against Tulane (3-0) on Thursday. The Jaguars will face Georgia Tech (4-0) at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday, with the match scheduled to be broadcast live through ESPN3. USA will cap the weekend with a 3:30 p.m. match with Wofford (1-2) Friday afternoon.

South Alabama opened the season last weekend at the Dayton Invitational in Dayton, Ohio, where it dropped two of three matches. The Jags defeated Marshall last Saturday to earn their first win of the season. Kelley Hartman leads the Jags in kills (44), kills per set (3.38), service aces (7), service aces per set (0.54), solo blocks (4), block-assists (11), total blocks (15) and blocks per set (1.15). She ranks fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in service aces per set, fifth in kills per set, seventh in hitting percentage (.386) and 10th in blocks per set. 

 Parker Harrell leads the team in assists (127) and assists per set (9.77), and ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in assists per set entering the weekend. Ashlyn Roberts holds the team lead in digs (34) and Lauren Hartman leads in digs per set (2.64).

Tulane opened the season with sweeps in all three matches last weekend in New Orleans. The Green Wave defeated UTEP, Incarnate Word and Louisiana each in straight sets. Tulane hosts New Orleans on Tuesday before opening play at the Hyatt Regency Invitational. The Green Wave leads the nation in blocks per set (4.00) entering the week.

Georgia Tech swept four matches to open the season last weekend in Atlanta, with three straight-set wins over Georgetown, Abilene Christian and Winthrop, and a four-set win over Idaho State. The Yellow Jackets rank 13th nationally in blocks per set (3.12).

Wofford opened the season last weekend at 1-2 after dropping its season opener to Purdue in straight sets and falling to Tulane in four sets before sweeping Bowling Green to cap the weekend in West Lafayette, Ind.
