MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team beat Samford 4-1 and Lamar 5-2 Saturday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

With the wins, the Jaguars improve to 8-1 on the year.

SAMFORD
-In doubles, junior Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) and freshman Milka Pasanen (Pieksamaki, Finland) fell to Roos Van Der Zwaan and Ellie Gerlach 6-3 at court 1.
-Juniors Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) and Patricia Martins (Lisbon, Portugal) bounced back with a 6-3 win over Holly Horsfall and Elsa Pool at No. 2.
-Samford secured the doubles point when Arianna Beltrame and Grace Jennings defeated freshmen Yu Fujioka (Funabashi, Japan) and Maxine Palmen (Sittard, Netherlands) 6-4 on court 3.
-No. 90 Stiteler started singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Van Der Zwaan at No. 1, and Zolotareva gave the Jags a 2-1 lead by besting Horsfall 6-2, 6-1 on court 3.
-At No. 4, Fujioka dropped Pool 6-3, 6-4, and Palmen clinched the victory for the Jaguars by defeating Beltrame 7-5, 6-3 on court 5.

LAMAR
-In doubles, Fujioka and Zolotareva bested Jasmin Buchta and Natalia Molina 6-1 at No. 1, and Martins and Stiteler clinched the doubles point by defeating Amelie Vossaegetter and Kaela Di Guilio 6-2 on court 2.
-Fujioka began singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Di Giulio at No. 3, and Stiteler put the Jags up 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Buchta on court 1.
-Zolotoreva fell to Sanjaj Jolic 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, but Martins clinched the win for South Alabama by dropping Milena Belianovich 6-2, 6-3 on court 5.
-In other singles action, Palmen beat Vossgaetter 6-3, 6-4 on court 4, and freshman Nikola Kohoutova (Kralupy Nad Vltavou) fell to Molina 7-5, 7-5 at No. 6.

NOTES
-The match against Samford was delayed due to rain. It was originally scheduled for 10 a.m. but it was pushed back until 12:15 p.m.
-Because of the delay, the match against Lamar, which was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., started at 4:30 p.m.
-Fujioka and Stiteler extended singles win streaks. Fujioka has won eight straight, and Stiteler has won six straight.
-Fujioka (8-0), Stiteler (6-0), and Martins (5-0) are all undefeated in singles this spring.
-Up next for USA is a rematch against Lamar Sunday at 10 a.m.
