WIN STREAK ENDS FOR WOMEN’S TENNIS

Results

NEW ORLEANS – After starting 5-0 this spring, the University of South Alabama women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Tulane Saturday at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
 
DOUBLES
-Freshman Yu Fujioka (Funabashi, Japan) and junior Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) lost 6-0 to Laura Fabrizi and Ivone Alvaro at No. 2.
-Junior Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Nikola Kohoutova (Kralupy nad Vltavou, Czech Republic) bounced back with a 6-0 win over Christina Sisti and Alex Alegre on court 3.
-Tulane took the doubles point when freshmen Milka Pasanen (Pieksamaki, Finland) and Maxine Palmen (Sittard, Netherlands) fell to Sade Atkinson and Elena Muller 6-1 at No. 1.
 
SINGLES
-The Jaguars started singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory from Stiteler against Atkinson at the No. 1 position.
-On court No. 3, Zolotareva fell to Alvaro 6-1, 6-3, but Fujioka tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sisti at No. 5.
-Pasanen fell 6-4, 6-3 against Muller on court No. 4, and Fabrizi clinched the win for Tulane by defeating Palmen 6-3, 6-3.
-In other singles action, Martins won 6-2, 7-6 (1) against Daniela LaFuente at No. 6.
 
NOTES
-The loss gives South Alabama a 5-1 record on the season, while Tulane improved to 6-3.
-Fujioka, Martins and Stiteler continue undefeated in singles. Fujioka is 5-0, Martins is 4-0, and Stiteler is 3-0.
-The Jags return home Sunday to face Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
-USA remains undefeated at home this spring, boasting a 3-0 mark.

"It was a tough loss, but if processed correctly, it will be invaluable in the long run. We're not yet ready to win matches of this magnitude, but this was definite confirmation that we have stacks of talent and the sky is the limit for this team. Once we execute at a higher level in practice and understand the value of ball control, then today's losses will be eliminated very quickly. It's a short turnaround as we get ready for a rock-solid Southeastern Louisiana team tomorrow."
