It was the Jags first win in Tuscaloosa, third-straight win against the Tide, and first victory against a SEC team since defeating Ole Miss 67-60 eight years ago to the date in 2010.
Alabama took control of the game early and led the Jags 18-9 at the conclusion of the first quarter. The South women gained their composure and took control of the game late in the second quarter thanks to a hefty scoring run. Damaya Telemaque capped off a season-high 14-0 run with a two-pointer to give the Jags a three-point lead heading into halftime. Although Alabama made various attempts at a comeback in the second half, the Jags did not give back the lead once they gained it for the first time.

OPENING TIP
With the win over Alabama, the Jags have won seven-consecutive games in one season for the eleventh time in history, and are now tied for the eighth longest such streak in program history.
As of Friday Dec. 7, South remains one of the 21 unbeaten Division one NCAA teams, and is the only remaining undefeated team in the Sun Belt.
Antoinette Lewis averages a double-double on her home court with 19.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. The sophomore forward, has two double-doubles on the season and has missed two more by one rebound in each of the last two contests. Lewis is shooting .732 from the field this season and is second among all division one NCAA players. As a team South is shooting .480 from the floor, good for 14th best in the country.
Freshman guard Damaya Telemaque has led the Jags in scoring in three of her six career starts, and leads the team with 23 assists. Telemaque shot 61.5 percent from the field against Alabama and led all scorers with 19 points.
The Jags have outscored opponents by an average of 77.7-66.3 on home court at the Mitchell Center. They also block five more shots and average four more three-pointers made per game at home, as opposed to on the road. Savannah Jones leads the way on that effort as she has connected on 12 out of her 15 threes in Mobile.
The meeting versus Alabama State will mark the 86th time South Alabama has faced a current Southwestern Athletic Conference member. The Lady Hornets will be the second, and last, SWAC team on the Jags schedule, they previously faced and beat Southern 53-49 on Nov. 19 in Baton Rouge.
South failed to record a blocked shot in a game on Wednesday against Alabama for the first time since Feb 15, 2014. The Jags fell 55-81 to Western Kentucky in that contest.
PREVIEWING WEDNESDAY
Head Coach Terry Fowler
On Alabama State: "Alabama State has always been a well-coached team. They've been in the NCAA tournament, won the SWAC. I know they lost some players, but they have always been defensive minded. They play great on that end of the floor. We expect a hard-nose, scrappy team to come in here and be ready to play on Sunday."
On returning home: "It's a great feeling. This time, as you go into finals we always love playing our last game at home. Our kids can get into study mode. Being around the friendly confines of the Mitchell Center. Shooting at home, playing at home, sleeping in our own beds, we love that felling. Our crowds have been real supportive and helped us make it through some of these ball games."
On moving forward after beating Alabama: "We kind of have a 24-hour rule. Enjoy it, then we come back and get into film and start working. It's about us and our focus goes into Alabama State, as we look forward to them."
