DOUBLES PUSHES WOMEN’S TENNIS TO VICTORY AGAINST COASTAL CAROLINA

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team took the doubles point en route to a 4-1 win over Coastal Carolina Saturday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

This marks the ninth straight win for the Jaguars, as they improve to 17-4, while the Chanticleers fall to 14-5.

"It was a good weekend," said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. "We got two wins over two good teams, which is going to help us with the seeding in the conference tournament, and it's just good to play these teams to know what to expect a couple weeks from now."

In doubles, sophomore Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) and senior Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.) swept Romane Delay and Alexa Tiefel 6-0 on court No. 2. Senior Laura Valkova (Piestany, Slovakia) and sophomore Patricia Martins (Lisbon, Portugal) secured the doubles point for the Jags with a 6-3 win over Marie Babayan and Sara Bondar at No. 1.

"Today was business as usual," Keyser said. "We did the right stuff and executed pretty well, and when we do that, we have good doubles."

Sophomore Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) began singles by defeating Maria Khomchenko 6-1, 6-3 on court No. 6 to put USA up 2-0. Senior Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) fell to Bondar 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, but Stiteler fought back with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Rylie Cox on court No. 1. Valkova clinched the win for the Jags by besting Natalie Wall 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 3.

"Our girls dug in, they stayed mentally tough, and they closed the matches out," said Keyser.

The Jaguars return to the court Friday at 2 p.m. to play Middle Tennessee at home.
