WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS TROY TO CLOSE REGULAR SEASON

RESULTS

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team finished their spring season with a 4-0 victory over Troy Sunday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

The win marks the eleventh straight for the Jags, as they improve to 19-4. Troy fell to 7-14 on the year.

"We played one of our best matches of the year," said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. "There was a hiccup at the end, but it's good to be playing this kind of tennis going into the tournament."

To begin doubles, sophomore Patricia Martins (Lisbon, Portugal) and senior Laura Valkova (Piestany, Slovakia) dropped Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky 6-3 on court No. 1. Sophomore Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) and senior Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) bested Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina 6-2 at No. 3 to earn the doubles point.

"We've been playing good doubles all year long," Keyser said. "We did the fundamentals pretty well, and we've got good doubles players. When they do the basics well, we usually play good doubles."

In singles, sophomore Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) downed Ohta 6-2, 6-1 on court No. 1, and Matuskova defeated Xue 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 to put the Jags up 3-0. Valkova clinched the victory for USA with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Karaky on court No. 3.

"You try to map things out and prime at the right time," said Keyser. "I think we're in a good spot going into the tournament."

The Jaguars return to action in the Sun Belt Conference Championships Thursday. Their opponent and match times will be announced at a later date.
