MOBILE, Ala. – Coming off a tough stretch against two nationally-ranked opponents and another from the Big XII Conference, the University of South Alabama women's tennis team will attempt to reverse their fortunes at home this weekend against Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss.
Both matches will take place at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. Friday's match against La Tech will start at 2 p.m., and Saturday clash vs. USM will commence at 11 a.m.
The Jaguars traveled to No. 35 Wichita State and Oklahoma last weekend, but returned home without a win, falling 4-0 and 4-1, respectively, giving the program its first three-match losing streak since 2013.
Both senior
Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and sophomore
Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) had their win streaks stopped last week, but they still have a team-best 7-1 singles record.
USA has won all 11 meetings with Louisiana Tech in a series that dates back to 1983. The two schools have faced off in each of the previous two seasons, with the Jags taking a 6-1 decision in each match, the only two points the Bulldogs have taken in the last seven meetings.
La Tech has a 7-5 record and has won three of its last four matches.
Jazmin Britos is 8-3 at the top flight and currently holds a four-match win streak.
The Jaguars is also undefeated all-time against Saturday's opponent, having won 21 straight against the Golden Eagles. USM is 5-4 but is 4-2 in its last six outings.
Carolin Drescher is 5-2 at No. 1 singles, and
Alex Kitchen holds a 6-2 record at No. 2.
