BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alina Zolotareva and freshman Yu Fujioka went 2-0 in doubles Friday at the Samford Fall Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
 
After Friday's matches, the University of South Alabama women's tennis team withdrew from the tournament due to weather.
 
SINGLES
-Nikola Kohoutova dropped Jana Hecking of Alabama-Birmingham 6-2, 7-5 in Flight D, and Patricia Martins fell to Lidia Burrows of Middle Tennessee 6-2, 6-2.
-Tulane's Daniela La Fuente defeated Leslie Soto 6-4, 7-5 in Flight E.
-In Flight C, Yu Fujioka was defeated by Melissa Pick of Wisconsin 7-5, 6-2.
-Alina Zolotareva lost to MTSU's Parta Peris 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in Flight B.
-In Flight A, Maxine Palmen fell to UAB's Alex Shchipakina 6-4, 7-5.
 
DOUBLES
- Zolotareva and Fujioka bested MTSU's Kim Kermet and Maria Josefina Zehnder in the first round, 6-3, then downed Wisconsin's Sara Castellano and Lexi Keberle in the semifinals, 6-2.
-Martins and Palmen won 6-1 over Sophie Dodds and Marlene Herrmann from UAB before falling to Tulane's Sade Atkinson and Sofia Kurtz 6-4.
-Burrows and Costanza Magazzani defeated Kohoutova and Soto 7-5.
 
NOTES
-Kohoutova, Fujioka, and Palmen are all 3-1 in singles after this weekend.
-The next event for the Jaguars is the West Florida Classic Oct. 13-14.
