MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will host a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches this weekend at Jag Gym.
USA (15-7, 10-2 SBC) will host SBC West Division leader Louisiana (17-9, 10-2 SBC) at 5 p.m. Friday at Jag Gym. The Jaguars will close out the weekend with a 12:30 p.m. contest on Sunday against ULM at Jag Gym. Both matches will be streamed live and available for free through JagNationTV.com. South Alabama enters the weekend having won eight of its last 10 matches after falling at Coastal Carolina last Sunday, which marked the Jaguars' lone SBC road loss this season. USA suffered its first SBC loss at home on Oct. 22 when it fell to Arkansas State in four sets. South Alabama is 6-2 at Jag Gym this season.
USA leads the Sun Belt in opponent hitting percentage (.156) and blocks per set (2.73), and ranks fourth in service aces per set (1.25). Sophomore middle blocker Kelley Hartman leads the conference in blocks per set (1.36), and ranks second in hitting percentage (.325). Defensive specialist Abby Baker ranks seventh in digs per set (4.03).
In SBC contests, the Jags also lead the league in opponent hitting percentage (.144) and blocks per set (2.95). Hartman leads the conference in hitting percentage (.384) in SBC matches, ranks third in blocks per set (1.26) and ninth in service aces per set (0.26). Freshman middle blocker Morgan Stalcup ranks second in blocks per set (1.28) in league contests, while Baker ranks ninth in digs per set (3.86) in conference matches.
Louisiana also enters the weekend 8-2 in its last 10 matches after sweeping UTA in straight sets and defeating Texas State in five sets last weekend in Lafayette, La. The Cajuns lead the SBC in digs per set (16.80), and rank third in hitting percentage (.222) and blocks per set (2.31). ULL's Sydney Davis ranks third in the league in digs per set (4.86). The Cajuns are 5-3 on the road this year, but are 4-1 on the road in conference matches.
ULM (4-25, 0-12 SBC) carries a 13-game losing streak into the weekend. The Warhawks are 0-10 on the road this season. ULM has been swept in straight sets in its last four matches, and last won a set in a five-set loss at Little Rock on Oct. 14. The Warhawks enter the weekend in last place in the SBC West Division. ULM ranks last in the SBC in hitting percentage (.140), opponent hitting percentage (.239), assists per set (9.80) and kills per set (10.61). ULM's Kacey LeBlanc leads the conference in service aces per set (0.38). In SBC contests, the Warhawks rank last in the league in hitting percentage (.123), opponent hitting percentage (.287), assists per set (9.73), kills per set (10.54) and blocks per set (1.24).
ULL holds a 32-17 all-time lead over South Alabama in a series that began on Oct. 7, 1977. USA has won the last two meetings between the schools, and seven of the last eight contests dating back to 2011. The Jags defeated the Cajuns in four sets in Lafayette last season in the lone meeting between the schools. South Alabama owns an 11-7 all-time lead over ULM in a series that began on Sept. 22, 1984. ULM defeated the Jags last season in five sets in Monroe, La., which snapped a four-game Jaguar winning streak in the series. USA is 7-0 all-time against ULM at home.
