MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will host the Jaguar Invitational this weekend at Jag Gym.
USA (2-1) will welcome Florida A&M, Florida International and Southeastern Louisiana to the two-day tournament, which will kick off at 10:30 a.m. Friday with FAMU taking on FIU. USA will face SLU at 1 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. contest between the Lions and FAMU. South Alabama will square off with former Sun Belt Conference foe FIU at 6:30 p.m. to close day one of the tournament.
FIU and SLU will play at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, while the Jaguars will take on FAMU at 1 p.m. in the tournament finale.
Live stats for every game will be available at USAJaguars.com. Live streaming for the Jaguars' 1 p.m. contest with SLU on Friday, as well as Saturday's 1 p.m. matchup with FAMU will be available at USAJaguars.com, however, streaming for the USA-FIU match will not be available.
The Jaguars won two of three matches at the Marriott Invitational – hosted by Samford – in Birmingham, Ala., last weekend and are currently tied for the second-best record in the Sun Belt Conference.
South Alabama ranks tied for fourth in service aces per set (1.73), and fifth in hitting percentage (.211) and kills per set (12.18) entering this weekend's tournament.
Senior middle blocker Sarah Richardson ranks tied for third in the conference in service aces per set (0.60), and is seventh in the league in hitting percentage (.333). Richardson's six service aces in the Jags' five-set season-opening win over Indiana State last weekend are the most in a single match in the SBC this season.
Mechell Daniel ranks tied for seventh in the SBC in kills per set (2.91), while Kellyn Reeves and Abby Baker each rank 10th in assists per set (5.64) and digs per set (3.36), respectively.
USA holds a 22-18 all-time series lead over SLU, and enters the match with a six-game win streak in the series. The Jags are 12-0 all-time against FAMU, while FIU holds a 22-6-1 all-time lead over South Alabama.
