CLARKSTON, Ga.
– The University of South Alabama women's tennis team lost no more than three games in any set in taking care of Appalachian State Saturday on the Georgia State-Clarkston campus.

The Jaguars win their ninth straight match to improve to 19-4 on the year, while the Mountaineers fall to 6-12.

"We had a very good performance today," USA head coach Jaco Keyser said. "I feel like we are still improving this late in the season. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's last opportunity to improve as we work towards the postseason."

Singles began with a whitewashing at No. 5 by USA freshman Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) over Rebecca Morse. Junior Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.), playing at No. 2, defeated Melissa Machado 6-2, 6-2, and junior Laura Valkova (Piestany, Slovakia) finished off the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Clare Cox on court 1.

The Jags took an early lead in doubles, losing just two games combined. Senior Cinta Maria Papke (Flein, Germany) and junior Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) shut out Morse and McKayla Zupan at No. 3, and Mitta and Zolotareva clinched the doubles point, downing Taylor Bygrave and Megan Mullen 6-2 on court 2.
