CLARKSTON, Ga. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team lost no more than three games in any set in taking care of Appalachian State Saturday on the Georgia State-Clarkston campus.
The Jaguars win their ninth straight match to improve to 19-4 on the year, while the Mountaineers fall to 6-12.
"We had a very good performance today," USA head coach 
Jaco Keyser said. "I feel like we are still improving this late in the season. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's last opportunity to improve as we work towards the postseason."
Singles began with a whitewashing at No. 5 by USA freshman 
Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) over 
Rebecca Morse. Junior 
Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.), playing at No. 2, defeated 
Melissa Machado 6-2, 6-2, and junior 
Laura Valkova (Piestany, Slovakia) finished off the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over 
Clare Cox on court 1.
The Jags took an early lead in doubles, losing just two games combined. Senior 
Cinta Maria Papke (Flein, Germany) and junior 
Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) shut out Morse and 
McKayla Zupan at No. 3, and Mitta and Zolotareva clinched the doubles point, downing 
Taylor Bygrave and 
Megan Mullen 6-2 on court 2.
South Alabama closes out the regular season Sunday afternoon against No. 46 Georgia State at 1 p.m. CDT.
