ResultsTROY, Ala. – The No. 45 University of South Alabama women's tennis team won their sixth straight match by defeating Georgia Southern 4-0 Friday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The Jaguars improved to 16-4 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 9-7.
"This was a very good performance today," said USA head coach
Jaco Keyser.
To begin the doubles portion freshman
Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) and senior
Cinta Maria Papke (Flein, Germany) topped
Mariana Ranzahuer and
Lindsay Truscott 6-3 at court No. 1.
Senior
Michaela Meszarosova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and junior
Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.) secured the doubles point by beating
Francisca Norregaard and
Giulia Riepe 6-2 at No. 2.
In singles, Mitta defeated Ranzahuer 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2, and Papke dropped Truscott 6-2, 6-1 at court No. 3 to put the Jags up 3-0.
Meszarosova clinched the victory by defeating
Emilia Bujan 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.
"I felt like from an execution standpoint we played a solid match start to finish but more importantly we are pretty close to having the identity that we want as a team and program," Keyser said.
The Jaguars return to action Saturday to take on No. 61 Old Dominion at home.
