No. 70 WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA

Results

MOBILE, Ala.
– The No. 70 University of South Alabama women's tennis team extended their win streak to seven matches after blanking Southeastern Louisiana 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

With the victory, the Jaguars improved to 8-3 on the season, while the Lions dropped to 3-3.

"I thought we played really well," said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. "I was a little worried about having a letdown after last weekend. We started off a little slow in doubles, but that was some of the best singles we've played all year."

In doubles, junior Laura Valkova (Piestany, Slovakia) and senior Paula Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) swept Natalie Duran and Madina Vorotnikova 6-0 at No. 3. Freshman Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) and Junior Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Margaux Kaltenbacher and Dany Raygadas on court No. 2.

"We're doing the same things we are always working on in practice, but we're doing it with more belief and executing over a more consistent period during matches," Keyser said. "That's putting pressure on opponents."

The singles portion began with two quick wins for the Jags. At No. 5, Zolotareva dropped Lucia Bustamante 6-0, 6-1, and Valkova bested Dalina Dahlmans 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 2 court to put the Jaguars up 3-0.

Freshman Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) sealed the win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Renee Villarreal at No. 1.

At No. 3, Junior Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.) defeated Raygadas 6-1, 6-2, and at No. 4, Matuskova beat Ceci Mercier 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. Senior Cinta Maria Papke (Flein, Germany) finished the match with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win over Vorotnikova at No. 6.

"They're getting on the scoreboard and building scoreboard pressure," said Keyser. "They were very good frontrunners today, and they're a talented bunch, which helps a lot."

The Jaguars return to action Friday when they travel to San Francisco to take on San Jose State.
