WOMEN’S TENNIS HEADS TO LOUISIANA FOR PAIR OF MATCHES

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team will take its four-match win streak to Louisiana on Saturday and Sunday.

The Jaguars (5-3) will take on Sun Belt Conference rival Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday at 9:30 a.m., and No. 13 LSU at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

"It's a big weekend for us," USA head coach Jaco Keyser said. "We've got a conference match, and it looks like Louisiana-Lafayette is playing some good tennis this year, and Sunday against LSU, they're a team that's having a great season.

"We'll have to play some good tennis. Both of those teams are having good seasons, but if we play to our capabilities, there's no reason why we can't."

The Jags lead the series 30-5 with the Cajuns and have won the last five, but South Alabama and LSU haven't met since 1990. The Tigers have won four of the five all-time meetings.

South Alabama has lost just one point in its win streak and improved to 5-3 with a 7-0 victory over Nicholls State. Freshman Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) was named the Sun Belt's co-Athlete of the Week after starting the season with a 5-1 record at No. 1 singles.

Louisiana-Lafayette enters the weekend with a 5-1 record and has won its last two outings. The Ragin' Cajuns have lost just one doubles match this spring (9-1) and have a 4-1 record at flights 1, 3, 4 and 6.

Kelly Drew is 3-1 at No. 1 singles and partners with Melissa Burckhartt for a 3-1 mark at No. 1 doubles.

"Being a conference match and with the conference being pretty bunched up, we've just got to be ready to go and try to play our best tennis," Keyser said.

LSU opened the year with six consecutive victories but has lost its last two matches to No. 5 North Carolina and No. 12 Michigan, and will face a pair of ranked teams – No. 67 North Carolina State and No. 75 Maryland – before taking on the Jags Sunday.

The Tigers have a strong back half of the lineup, posting a 16-3 record at flights 4-6.
