Jacksonville State Results

MOBILE, Ala.
– The University of South Alabama women's tennis team defeated both Jackson State and Jacksonville State 7-0 Friday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

With the victories, the Jaguars improve to 3-3 on the season.

"I'm excited to get two wins," said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. "Winning feels good. We're getting back on the winning track and going about business as always. Playing a doubleheader is always long, but our student-athletes were really mature in the way they approached our matches."

Against Jackson State, South Alabama quickly took the doubles point. Alexandria Stiteler and Laura Matuskova beat Akshatha Ananth and Bright Phakamad 6-0 at No. 3, and Cinta Maria Papke and Paula Sanchez won 6-1 against Daria Butorina and Julie Angermann at No. 2.

In singles, Alina Zolotareva swept Butorina 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Michaela Meszarosova followed with a win over Phakamad 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 to put the Jags up 3-0.

Stiteler clinched the victory for the Jaguars with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Angermann at No. 3. At No. 4, Papke defeated Ananth 6-2, 6-1, and Matuskova won against Karina Ono 6-1, 6-1. Sanchez beat Rebekah Adewumi 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 to end the match.

"The keys for us are always how we come out from a focus standpoint, from an energy standpoint, and how well we execute early in the points, and I thought we did that," Keyser said.

In the nightcap, USA quickly earned the doubles point against Jacksonville State. At No. 2, Papke and Sanchez defeated Diana Mirceta and Sadey St. Amant 6-0, followed by Matuskova and Stiteler beating Courtney Conley and Isabella Calves 6-1 at No. 3.

The singles portion began with Papke winning 6-0, 6-0 against St. Amant at No. 4, and Zolotareva defeating Mirceta 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Stiteler sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Olivia Nguyen at No. 3.

To finish out the day, the Jaguars earned victories from Meszarosova, Matuskova, and Sanchez. Meszarosova won 6-4, 6-0 against Genevie Ulanday at No. 3, Matuskova swept Conley 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Sanchez beat Calves 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.

"We played the points really well against Jacksonville State," said Keyser. "It's not easy beating people 6-0, 6-0. That means you're contesting every point and you're not giving points away. They all did great, and that's what it's going to take for us. We need all seven points to be rock solid, and today we did that."

The Jaguars return to action Friday to take on Texas State at 1 p.m. in Mobile.
