Head coach Amy Hendrichovsky-
On her thoughts on what she saw in the match: "It's the beginning of the season and I thought we saw some great things on both sides. I also think we saw some things that we need to work on heading towards the opening of the season."
-
On what things she feels the team needs to work on this week in practice as they prepare for their season opener: "We've been practicing about two weeks and we really haven't worked much on our lineup. The last couple of days and tonight was the first real time that we've had a chance to do so, so this week, we need to work on our chemistry and how we play together. To just figure out what's that core group that will be out there for us next weekend."
-
On what players stood out to her tonight: "I think overall, we had some pretty good performances. I thought for being a freshman, Emma Anderson came in and stayed positive and played pretty loose. That's what we're looking for in some others. I think some others (played) a little tight, for what reason, I'm not sure, but we'll figure that out. Overall though, I feel we had a good night."
Freshman Setter – Emma Anderson-
On what it was like for her being in a college match setting: "It was really fun. To be honest, I was really nervous in the beginning, but I settled down once I got into the match and we started playing well as a team. We were able to pass pretty well and our hitters were putting the ball away. It was a really good for me to have this experience before we go off to Pepperdine. I'm excited for this season."
-
On what she feels the team can work on this week in practice: "I think we can work a lot on our passing and chemistry. We also need to be more consistent serving the ball. If we are able to side-out faster, it will really help us in the long run, because at this tournament next weekend, the team that has the best serving and passing will win."
Redshirt Senior Libero – Jenna Hassell-
On being back in a match setting since suffering her injury last summer: "It's kind of like riding a bike I guess. I was nervous at first, but it came back naturally to me. We do game-like situations in practice, so that really helped prepare me for tonight."
-
On what she saw in the match that the team can take and work on this week in practice: "Coach (Hendrichovsky) has been telling us all preseason that serve and pass is huge. Our serving was a bit off today, . It's definitely something that we've got to work on this week. We missed way too many balls, so serve and pass is what we really need to focus on. If we can be consistent on our pass, then we'll be able to do some good things on offense."
Up Next: South Alabama will open up the 2014 season versus Pepperdine on Friday (Aug. 29) at the Asics Classic in Malibu, Calif., at 9 p.m. (CT). USA will also face Oral Roberts and Nevada at the tournament on Saturday.
