MOBILE, Ala. – May 3, 2013, will mark the 50th Anniversary of the University of South Alabama.  Throughout the academic year, the USA Department of Athletics will recognize “50 Great Moments In Jaguar Athletics” to honor past teams, coaches and student-athletes for their accomplishments.

June 11, 2006
Vincent Rono clocks a time of 3:44.07 in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, becoming the first USA student-athlete to win an outdoor national championship.  It capped a year in which he led the Jaguars to a share of the team title at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships by scoring 40.5 points and also won three races at the league’s outdoor championships in May.  Rono won 12 races at Sun Belt Championships while earning all-conference honors on 15 occasions in two years, and he ended his Jaguar career the holder of school records at six different distances in both track and cross country.
